Ajay Devgn may be one of the few actors to have shown his talent in negative characters as well protagonists. He was awarded the best Villain Award in many occasions for his vivid portrayal . Ajay Devgn has been able to get into the list of the most influential film actors of our country in such a short time .Devgn has enacted many distinct characters in his career span which has shown his versatility as an actor and also served as the producer under his home production Ajay Devgn Productions .

Ajay Devgn was born into an Punjabi family to famous stunt choreographer and director Veeru Devgan and producer Veena Devgan . So from a very early age itself Devgan was in Awe for the art because of his family’s deep running roots in Bollywood. Ajay Devgn in his childhood used to accompany his father to film sets and shootings which drew him closer to cinema. Ajay Devgn after completing his schooling from Silver Beach High School and after that did his graduation from Mithibai College ,after which he stepped into Hindi films. Ajay Devgn was exposed more to martial arts in his teenage and thus was seen in the initial phase of his career doing mostly action movies which came to an end with the release of Dilwale in 1994. He has changed his surname to Devgan unlike his other family members.

Ajay Devgn is a very much outspoken individual in real life in contrast to his larger than life cinema avatars. He was in a relationship with Kajol from the days when they worked together for the movie Gundaraj. The two have acted in many successful movies as the lead pair which eventually led to their marriage on 24th February, 1999. The couple has two children; an elder girl named Nysa Devgn and a young son Yug Devgn. His surname was initially spelled as Devgan which he changed to Devgn in August 2009 on the request of his family .

Ajay Devgn began his acting career by starring in the blockbuster action movie Phool Aur Kaante (1991) directed by Kuku Kohli which went on to fetch him a Filmfare award for best male debut for his work. After which Ajay Devgn came up with yet another action avatar in Jigar (1992) which incidentally too was well received at that time making it the seventh highest grossing movie of the year 1992. After back to back macho roles Ajay Devgn made a genre detour and tried his hand in the romantic movie Dil Hai Betaab (1993) a typical love triangle movie with some shades of revenge which had nothing new to offer to the audience thus becoming his first official flop but Devgn’s performance turned out to be only saving grace for the movie. Devgn made a mark for himself rising above the mediocre script with his matured depiction of the Ajay which incidentally was his characters name too in the movie. Then Devgn moved on to Divya Shakti (1993) which too had a excellent box office run then and he did Sangram in the same year but could not repeat the same response. Ek Hi Raasta, Shaktiman, Dhanwaan and Bedardi all were his releases of 1993 which failed to create an impact at all. After the repeated bombings of his action movies Devgn switched back to the romantic genre with Dilwale (1994) along with Suniel Shetty and Raveena Tandon which got him a break in Bollywood, his character of a man with intellectual disability was highly appreciated for showcasing his acting skills in a challenging role for the first time till then. Dilwale was a career changing movie for Devgn who went on to do Kanoon which Devgn himself remembers as one of his biggest flops of the 90's, but then Devgn went on to act alongside Akshay Kumar in Suhaag which completed his initial releases for 1994, Suhaag was a box office hit and became a commercial success .Ajay Devgn during this phase was being cast mainly as the typical “man with a revenge roles and the all virtuous macho man hero“ which was recurring theme in Hindi cinema at that time. Devgn then commited for Vijaypath for which he had to decline the offer to play the one of the leads in Rakesh Roshan’s epic movie Karan Arjun which enjoys a cult audience even today but luckily for Devgn Vijaypath became a hit.
