It has been awhile since I have been writing here, but I will now be writing more, since I have completed my Spring cleaning and a few other chores as well. I have been doing research for a book I plan to write as well as lectures that I plan to share here on Vocal and Medium. There will be reviews of picture books and young adult books as well. The reviews that I plan to share today I know I shared to Medium, but I am not sure about here on Vocal.

'Maybe He Just Likes You'

Barbara Dee

2019

ISBN: 978-1-5344-3237-6

Simon & Schuster

304 pages

It seems that we all have problems and issues to deal with and Barbara Dee and her novel 'Maybe He Just Likes You' shows a way to deal with these kinds of issues. Barbara has written a story that answers the burning questions 'How do you know when someone crosses the line?' as the main character of Mila and her friends Omi, Zara, and Max kind of help each other even though there are many misunderstandings in and out of school. Mila is growing up as is her friends and schoolmates. Mila has responsibilities at school and at home as seen in the Chapter 'Lute'. Mila thinks that in the Chapter 'Coverage' will solve her problem, and in the Chapter 'Apology' Mila learns to accept various behaviors. The Chapter 'Surprise' an adult shows that it depends on the circumstances in working out the issues and later a teacher gives Mila something to think about.

Barbara Dee and her novel for young adults 'Maybe He Just Likes You' could be used as a book discussion in a school 'Friendship Group' lead by the school social worker or school counselor. This is a good book to read for it covers diversity in many ways that the reader will find out about and learn about acceptance.

We all have memories and 'Don't Drink the Pink' a picture book for young readers written by B.C.R. Fegan and drawn by Lenny Urea shares the story of a little girl named Madeline from her various birthdays that all included a very special gift. Teachers and parents could use this picture book to teach their students and children their numbers and colors and how to deal with a very special happening that we all have to learn sometime during our lives. The pictures were whimsical to 'read' along with the words that read like a lyrical poem for the rhythm of the words flow with each turn of the page. Each birthday has an adventure of sorts as Madeline has a birthday twist. My favorite part of the story was the last birthday when what she wasn't suppose to do for at times we all have done something in our lives that we know we shouldn't. This is a very human story as all readers will learn.

'It's Your World Now!'

Written and illustrated by: Barry Falls

2019

ISBN: 978-1-84365-431-5

Pavilion Children's Books

31 pages

"What a trip!" 'It's Your World Now!' is a picture book about a parent and a child on a walk to share some lessons and ideas on now to live life. There are three lessons that we all need to learn and try to remember. Barry Falls has written a children's book full of pictures that tell the story in a very vivid way. Through the use of light and dark colors he has successfully shown the feelings and emotions of the child and parent or at least close to what a child and parent feels about raising a child and learning to be a good parent in today's world.

Teachers and parents could use this picture book to talk about choices that one must make living life at any age. My favorite pictures were the first when the parent and child started their walk followed by the pictures describing nature around them and the dreams of the parent, then the picture when the parent has a realization. All the pictures and words flow even though it seems to be written as a poem to use the descriptions to define the emotions we all feel from time to time. This is a book 'a picture book' of wishes the one at any stage must make.

(I hope you enjoy these reviews and if I may ask and if you feel inclined you could offer me tip and/or heart. These are really good books.)
