5 Astonishing Facts in the Quran that will Surprise You

The holy book Al Qur'an is not just a book of faith which contains guidance, laws, or life guidelines given by God. But it turns out that in the Al-Qur'an there are scattered verses that contain modern scientific knowledge. As time goes by, from time to time, these signs of modern science continue to be revealed and eventually become an indisputable fact. Even the scientific facts in the Qur'an seem to dwarf the greatness of scientists. In fact, quite a few of those who are not Muslims finally accept the truth of Islam after learning the scientific facts in the Koran.

If we think with common sense and an open mind, there is no tendency whatsoever, how is it possible that the Al-Qur'an, which is a 7th century AD manuscript originating from the barren land of Arabia, talks about science that spans several centuries into the future. This is the historical fact of the Qur'an. It would be impossible for a member of the simple society of Mecca, and the general public there to be far from familiar with modern science, to talk about knowledge that was ahead of its time. This indication is quite clear that the Al-Qur'an is not written by the prophet Muhammad but is a revelation sent down from the God of the worlds.

Apart from that, the Qur'an is also perfect, its authenticity is protected from changes. So it is a very crude argument to say that the Qur'an is just a matchology (matching itself) with the scientific discoveries of science. Because the Qur'an predates modern science. In reverse, compatible science might make sense.

That is the Koran, the holy book that comes from God which was revealed to the Messenger of Allah. Bringer of grace to all nature. The following are scientific facts in the Qur'an which are actually very numerous. But here the admin will only explain 6.

1. Facts about Fire in the Sea Ocean

In the 7th century AD, Arab people were not people who liked to go to sea. In fact, the Islamic Caliphate's navy in Arabia only existed during the leadership of Uthman bin Afan, the third caliph who led the Muslim community after the death of the Prophet. Even during the time of Muhammad's prophethood, human knowledge about Oceanography  was still minimal. How was it possible that Muhammad did intensive research at that time and what was his method? If this is just a theory or a baseless imagination, of course what will happen is sheer chaos. But this is proof of the truth of the Qur'an. What the Qur'an says is truly relevant to the discoveries of today's scientists.

At that time, post-World War 2 scientists sailed the oceans in search of mineral materials. They were amazed when they discovered the fact that there were volcanic mountains lying beneath the sea. In fact, according to experts, there are more volcanic mountains under the sea than on land.

"By the hill (Sinai), and the book written, on an open sheet, by the Baitul Ma'mur  (Kakbah), by the roof that is raised high (the sky), and the sea whose bottom is fire." (QS. At-Tur: 1-6)

2. A very detailed explanation of Embryology

14 centuries ago, when humans did not yet understand what embryology was, the Qur'an explained in simple terms the knowledge about the development of the fetus in the womb.

"And indeed We have created man from the essence of the earth. Then, We made the essence of semen (which is stored) in a strong place (Womb). Then, We made the semen into a clot of blood. Then, We made the clot of blood into a clot "We made flesh and a lump of flesh into bones. Then We wrapped the bones in flesh. Then, We made him into a creature that had another (form)..." (QS. Al Mu'minun: 12-14)

This verse explains in detail the process of human fetal development. Starting from semen (sperm). Then a clot of blood (Alaqah) alaqah which means something that sticks. This term can be used for a type of small animal such as a leech. Then the next stage of development is to become a lump of flesh (embryo) as we see in very young fetuses. Then bones were created which were then perfected by being covered in flesh again so that they became the figure of another creature.

3. Mountain Walking Facts

"And you see the mountains, you think they stay where they are, but they move like clouds.  (That's how) Allah works, which makes every thing firm; indeed, Allah is all-knowing of what you do." (Qs. An Naml: 88)

In this verse it is said that mountains move like clouds. How do mountains move like clouds, don't clouds move very fast, while we only see mountains that are still? There is something interesting about the phenomenon of moving clouds.

Firstly, clouds cannot move by themselves but are moved by the wind. The fact is that the two clouds do not move in curves but go straight, following the direction of the wind. Likewise, mountains move because they are moved by the earth's rotation and revolution because the earth's rotation and revolution also move the atmosphere above its surface. When the earth moves rapidly in its rotation and revolution, of course the mountains are carried along. Rotation and revolution also move according to regular orbits. What is mentioned in this verse is a puzzle from modern science for humans to ponder and research, which ancient people could not understand.

4. Origin of Life

Water is essential for all living things. We all know that water is vital to life but the Quran makes a very unusual claim:

"We made every living thing from water. Will they not believe?" (Quran 21:30)

In this verse water is pointed out as the origin of all life. All living things are made of cells. We now know that cells are mostly made up of water[1]. For example, 80% of the cytoplasm (basic cell material) of a standard animal cell is described as water in biology textbooks.

The fact that living things consist mostly of water was discovered only after the invention of the microscope. In the deserts of Arabia, the last thing someone would have guessed is that all life came from water.

5. The sky as a roof that is maintained (protects)

"And We made the sky a protected roof, while they turned away from all the signs (of Allah's power) that were in it," (QS. Al Anbiya: 32)

Talking about the sky, the sky is not just outer space far away but the layer of the earth's atmosphere is also often called the sky, because flying birds are often said to soar in the high skies.

Modern science has discovered the fact that the earth's atmosphere is the layers of air that surround the earth. In this layer of the atmosphere there is something called the ozone layer (O3). The ozone layer is  part of the earth's atmosphere which functions to protect the earth from the dangers of solar radiation which can scorch the earth. There is 10% of the Ozone layer in the troposphere layer, namely the layer at an altitude of 10 to 16 Km above the earth's surface,  and there is 90%  in the stratosphere layer located  around 50 Km from the top of the troposphere layer. The nature of the ozone layer which functions to protect the earth from the dangers of solar radiation is very much in accordance with the statement in the Qur'an that the sky is a protected roof. This means that the earth's atmosphere is very well maintained so that it can function properly to protect the earth's surface. It is a roof that is sturdy and resilient against various radiation attacks. It's not broken.

These are some of the scientific evidence of science in the Qur'an, which actually has much more. However, here I will only mention a few of them. Hopefully this discussion can increase your knowledge of the Muslim holy book Al-Qur'an.
