WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU DIE

What happens when you finally leave the bucket, so to speak?

Despite our largely science-based views on death, it seems many of us still believe in life after death.

In 2014, British citizens were surveyed by the Telegraph and just under 60% of respondents said they believed some of us were still alive.

In the United States, a still deeply Catholic country, Pew Research asked people in 2015 what would happen after they died.

The survey found that 72% of Americans believe we will go to heaven, described as a place “where those who lead good lives will be eternally rewarded.

” 54% of American adults responded that they believe in hell, described as a place "where those who have bad lives and die without mercy are punished for eternity.

It seems that many people believe that after death we may go to a cloudy paradise, or conversely, if we do not adhere to the moral principles prescribed to us by religions or sects, we we could face eternal hellfire and the prospect of having to kneel before a red-bearded man who almost never puts his pitchfork down.

But let's start with some empirical realism and what actually happens to the body when we die.

Doctors knew you were dead because your heart stopped beating and there was no electrical activity in your brain.

Brain death is synonymous with death, although machines can make you live a little longer.

You may also experience a condition called cardiac death, which means your heart stops beating and blood no longer circulates in your body.

What is strange, even wonderful, is that people who suffered cardiac death but were brought back to life reported being aware of what was happening around them.

Others have talked about walking toward the light during such near-death experiences.

You can be brought back after what we call clinical death, but you only have a grace period of about 4 to 6 minutes.

But suppose you reach for the light and pass through it; This is what we call biological death – game over, final whistle, dead like a dodo.

This is where it gets a bit outrageous, but who cares, you're dead.

Once you're no longer with us forever, your muscles will relax and that means your sphincter will too, which means those three Whoppers and that big fire you lit at lunch will escape out of you - The gas you have inside you can also escape and cause a foul odour.

The same goes for urinating in your bladder, so it's not surprising that dying is a bit of a messy affair.

And men, you might even ejaculate.

As for women, if they become pregnant after death, they can give birth, called "coffin birth".

But that doesn't happen often.

Instead of pushing, it is the gas present in the abdomen that propels the newborn into the world.

As your body removes what's trapped inside, your mouth may make noises as the air escapes.

Nurses and people who work around corpses often report hearing very clear groans coming from the corpse.

You may have contractions, but that doesn't mean there is life in you, they are just muscle contractions. You could also soon get an erection if you died lying on your stomach and the blood flowed down there.

All your blood will pull to a certain area of your body. this is called 'livor mortis' and its the reason parts of you will have that dark purpule color you have seen on tv.

THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOPU DIE.
