Top 9 Underrated Vampire Movies

(that I've seen)

Vampires are cool. Vampire movies might just be a little cooler. In honour of Spooktober, I'm gonna count down the top nine movies about vampires because I want to talk about vampires, and I feel that vampires don't get the credit and attention that they deserve! Also, I'm not going to talk about any of the Dracula movies, because hot take: EVERY DRACULA MOVIE IS BAD. Gary Oldman has a terrible wig in the Coppola one, aside from Bela Lugosi's performance, the original is boring, and I haven't seen Dracula Untold, but somehow I doubt it will change my mind. So without further ado, Vampire Movies.

9. Van Helsing

Hugh Jackman fighting vampires. What more do you want? This one is really campy and fun, but it ranks lower for not being entirely about vampires, since it also has frankensteins and werewolves.

8. Underworld

Ahh, the early 2000s. Evanescence, Loonatics Unleashed, and people dressed in black leather firing machine guns at werewolves. The story is a little thin, but Bill Nighy is the big bad, and the part where she machine guns through the floor is cool.

7. My Babysitter's a Vampire

There's made for TV movies, then there is made for TV kids movies, then there is Canadian made for TV kids movies. This one falls into the latter category. As cheesy as this Teletoon special is, I always kinda dug it. I see at as the Lost Boys of the late 2000s. There's also this great bit where they parody the Twilight franchise, but that's not really unique for the time; That's So Weird did the same bit.

6. What We Do in the Shadows

Taika Waititi's amazing mockumentary is incredibly funny and genuinely great. The only reason it's this low on the list is that I tend to prefer more vampire action, and this movie is a comedy.

5. The Lost Boys

Kiefer Sutherland as a vampire! What more do you want? But seriously this movie is awesome. It has all the fun 80s kids on an adventure of The Goonies, Stand By Me, or ET, but with vampires. Honestly, there's a ton of great stuff in this movie, like when they steal holy water from a church during a service, and Corey Feldman's entire performance.

4. Blade II

Wesley Snipes killing vampires! What more do you want? The first Blade is great in its own way, but the second one might just be better. With crazier action and creature effects, director Guillermo Del Toro takes this series to the next level. Also, this movie has the exact same ending as The Librarian: Curse of The Judas Chalice. Side-note: Does anyone but me remember the Librarian movies?

3. The Librarian: Curse of the Judas Chalice

So The Librarian is this dollar store Indiana Jones ripoff about a librarian who looks for lost artifacts. They made three of these movies. I've seen all of them. They're all trash. The third movie is called Curse of the Judas Chalice and it's about vampires. The try to explain vampires by saying that Judas from the Bible was the first vampire, and that's why vampires don't like silver and the crucifix. It's nuts. So no, this movie doesn't really deserve the number three spot, but I wanted to talk about The Librarian because I need to know if anyone else remembers this series? Anyone?

2. From Dusk till Dawn

This one doesn't become a vampire movie 'til halfway through, so spoilers I guess. This movie is about a priest who has to reignite his faith in God by fighting a bunch of vampires in a bar. So yeah, this is exactly my kind of movie. The writing is great, the action is great, and they do basically everything you can possibly do with vampires as a concept. So what could possibly be number 1?

1. The Batman vs. Dracula

It's Batman vs. Dracula baby!! What more could you want? But seriously this movie is fucking awesome. And I know I said no Dracula movies, but this is the only one to actually do something interesting with the character, while maintaining all of the troupes from the source material. Batman makes a compelling Van Helsing stand-in, but also feels like a faithful rendition of the character, that pits Batman against a villain the likes he's never faced before. The duality of Batman and Dracula is one of the things that makes this matchup so entertaining. It's truly one of the great versus movies, and possibly the best. The movie even delves into Batman and the Joker's relationship in a new and creative way. And what's scarier than clowns? Vampire clowns. This movie, like legit holds up, and it was one of my first exposures to the vampire mythos, so it also kind of got me into vampires in the first place. Sure I'm being biased, but this is by far my favourite vampire movie, so go check it out. Batman fights vampire Joker in a blood bank.
