The Warning on the Road

It was a dark and stormy night, and Sarah was driving home from a long day at work. As she drove along the deserted road, the rain began to pour down harder, making it almost impossible to see. She turned on her headlights and continued down the road, hoping to make it home before the storm got any worse.

Suddenly, she saw something in the distance. It looked like a figure standing in the middle of the road, and she slammed on the brakes to avoid hitting it. As she got closer, she realized that it was a man, wearing a dark cloak and hood, with his face hidden from view.

Sarah rolled down her window and called out to him. "Are you okay? Do you need any help?" she asked, but the man just stood there, silent and motionless. She started to feel uneasy and decided to turn around and go back the way she came.

As she drove away, she couldn't shake the feeling that something was following her. She could hear strange noises coming from the back of her car, like someone was trying to open the trunk. She looked in the rearview mirror but saw nothing.

When she finally arrived home, she was relieved to be safe and sound. She went inside and locked the door behind her, feeling secure in the knowledge that she was alone. But as she settled down on the couch, she heard a knock at the door.

She cautiously approached the door and looked through the peephole. There was no one there, but she could hear someone breathing heavily on the other side. Suddenly, the door burst open, and the man from the road was standing there, his face still hidden from view.

Sarah screamed and tried to run, but he grabbed her by the arm and pulled her back into the house. He pushed her down onto the couch and revealed his face, which was covered in deep, gruesome scars.

"I've been waiting for you," he whispered, as he pulled out a large knife from under his cloak. Sarah tried to fight back, but it was no use. The man was too strong, and she was powerless to stop him.

The storm outside grew worse, and the sound of the rain pounding against the windows mixed with Sarah's screams. She knew that she was going to die, and there was nothing she could do about it.

As the man plunged the knife into her chest, Sarah's last thought was of the figure on the road, and the feeling of being followed. She realized too late that it was not a coincidence, but a warning. A warning that she should have heeded, but now it was too late.

The next morning, the police arrived at Sarah's house, responding to a call from her worried coworkers who had not heard from her since the previous evening. They found her body, covered in blood and with a large knife wound in her chest.

The investigation revealed no suspects or leads, and the case went unsolved. But the locals whispered of a strange figure that could be seen on the road at night, warning those who would listen to turn back and avoid the horrors that lay ahead. For Sarah, it was too late. But for others, perhaps they would be able to heed the warning and escape the same fate.

The moral of the story, is to always trust your instincts and listen to warnings, even if they may seem strange or out of place. In this case, the figure on the road was a warning that Sarah should have heeded, but instead, she ignored it and paid the ultimate price. It is better to be safe than sorry and to take precautions when it comes to personal safety, especially when driving alone at night.
