The latest addition to my movie diary was the low budget, independant movie, The Quantum Devil on Amazon Prime. Described as a science fiction horror, i was intrigued by this film to see how they would make the Quatum Real into a scary place, and what i watched wasnt what i expected.

Small Description:

Directed by Larry Wade Carrell, who has only directed 5 other feature films, the film was described as "A team of scientists face dangerous consequences after they conduct a clandestine experiment to breach the quantum barrier and travel to another dimension." With a lot of big words, i thought it was going to be as scientific as watching Oppenheimer, and this film wasn't lacklustre in the scientific aspect. The main protaginst was a scientist called Luke Matthews, who was played by Tyler Tackett, as he travels to an unknown destination to solve a quadratic equation. Once he reaches it, he meets the other scientists that had the same letter and equation. The first person he meets is Ivanna Escalante, played by Ariadna Cabrol, another scientist. After introducing each other, they are met by Sophie, played by Tamara Radovanovic, who was a psychic and medium, and could sense theings happening all around her. The two ladies then take Luke to meet Dr. Brad Richards, played by Edward Apeagyei, a social anxiety mathmatician and scientist based in London.

From there, they are invited to dinner by the person that invited them all, Dr Richard Cernovich, played by Neil Dickson, who goes around the table and speaks about the bad past all the characters have been through and have in common. Due to this, he persuades them to help him travel to the quantum real with the help of his recent discovery of quantinium.

Final Thoughts:

First of all, this film was heavy in the science. Im not a scientist myself, so they could of been talking nonscense, but from what i was hearing the script was very well written in that aspect. We are introduced to Luke Matthews first, in a taxi, where it is portrayed that he is a bit of a egotistical human and Tyler Tackett does very well of portraying that.

Another thing i apriciated about the start of this film was the eerieness setting. When he arrives to this massive factory in the storming rain, the servant, Klaatu, speaks a different language and keeps the mysteriousness of the place sureal as we dont know what he was saying. When we are introduced to Dr. Cernovich, he too has a eerie shadow that follows him with a bad past, as do the rest of the scientists he's hired. Larry Wade Carrell does an exceptional job of keeping the mystery in the first half of the movie.

Unfortunately to say, the movie went down hill once they had entered the quantum realm. First of all, they dont realise that they had entered the realm, and once they do, its too late. Some of the visual effects and CGI were done spectacularly, especially what happens to one of the scientists... The music was very fitting and the props goes to composer Colin McGinness as he did a incredible job following the eerie pattern with the rest of the film. Camera work was quite basic and the pacing was fairly slow, but not terrible.

Acting was quite a suprise. Although it wasnt Oscar performances, they werent bad. I feel like Edward Apeagyei and Tamara Radovanovic were the ones to take away as the super-performers of this film as they were, i thought, continuously good throughout. The otheres were on and off which was a shame, and the script, apart from the science talks, was very lacklustre. Niel Dickson did a good job with his charcater and being the villian of the movie, but

The Ending (Spoilers Ahead):

The ending, in my opinion was awful and let the film down completely. Not only do all the characters die in thw quantum realm, this gigantic squad creature appears and threatens Dr. Cernovich, only to realise that Dr. Cernovich is a god in this quantum realm and is twice the size of this creature. I feel like they went all out at the end and rushed it completly. It was badly written and badly thought through which was a shame as i was quite enjoying the rest of this film. With that being said, I don't completely hate this film. Overall, i would reccomend it to someone who needs time to past and enjoys thing like the quantum realm and horror movies, but other than that, i would pass on this one. Excited to watch more movies made by Larry Wade Carrell, however.
