Ben was 10-years old and visiting his uncle Peter with his parents. Peter lived on an old farm that his late father had left him. The family had been around for a while when Peter told Ben about a special place to fish. He had caught the biggest fish in his life, Pete told Ben. Ben loved fishing and wanted to become a great fisherman. He wanted to travel around the world on a boat and catch the biggest fish ever seen.

One morning, Ben wanted to take a closer look at the area and said to his parents, "Hey mom, I'm going to play outside. I'll be back before dinner."

Ben's mother didn't have the time to tell her boy to be careful and that she loved him. Ben was out the door already. Of course, he took his fishing rod with him.

It was nice and warm outside, and Ben found the surroundings very inviting.

He felt like fishing. So, he went looking for the place his uncle told him. Peter told him how to get there, and he remembered very well. Ben wandered around for about 20 minutes when he finally found it." "Well, that doesn't look so nice." thought Ben.

All the plants around the fishing hole were rotten. The boy walked a little closer to look into the Pond. There was a foul smell in the air. A smell like someone died.

Ben looked into the water, and it was so cloudy that he couldn't even see the fish if there were any in the water.

"Well, he thought. "I'll try my luck. "

He sat down in the rotting grass and took a fat worm out of his fishing bag. He had dug them up the day before with his father and uncle.

Ben stuck the worm on the fishing hook and threw the line as far as he could into the water.

He sat down again and waited very patiently. Suddenly a wind was blowing out of nowhere. Ben was a bit scared. Then something twitched on the fishing line. Ben jumped up and tried to pull the fish ashore. But easier said than done.

"It must be a big fish that I have on the line, he thought."

He was about to give up when the pulling on the fishing line became less. The first thing that occurred to him was that he'd lost the fish. He gave all he had and was able to take a first look at the fish. It was the prettiest fish Ben had ever seen, and he wanted it.

No matter what it costs.

He pulled and pulled. He had almost made it when suddenly, a couple of eyes looked at him from the water. Ben was so scared that he dropped the fishing rod as he fell backward into the grass. Ben watched his fishing rod disappear into the water. His heart was racing, and he felt sick through his stomach. "What was that?" He asked himself. He didn't want to wait to find out what looked at him. The confused and frightened boy just wanted to leave.

He got up quietly because he didn't want to attract any attention. Ben left all his stuff behind and ran as fast as he could in the direction of the house.

When he finally got home, he saw Peter and his mother Helena in front of the door. As she saw Ben running towards her, she knew right the way, that something was wrong. She pulled Peter's arm and shouted, 'Peter, come on. Something is wrong with Ben. "

The child started to cry. He didn't want to, but he couldn't hold back the tears any longer. Helena fell on her knees and wrapped her arms around her son. Ben was shaking all over. "What happened? You are shaking all over?" she asked him. Ben could only get a few words out. "Pond! Pond!" "What about the pond Ben?" Asked his uncle.

Ben looked at him with wide eyes and passed out. When he came to, he was in his bed. Did he dream everything? Ben sat up in his bed and stretched. "I'm so hungry. Let's see if mom has breakfast ready. He opened the door of his bedroom and went to the stairs that led down to the first floor. Ben went down the stairs towards the kitchen but stopped in the kitchen entrance. He made sure that his mother couldn't see him. Ben heard his mother and uncle talking.

"What do you think, Peter? Did the boy imagine everything?" asked Helena, Peter.

"I think so. Ben probably fell asleep on the edge of the water and had a bad dream," he replied.

Peter put his hand on Ben's shoulder and asked him if he wanted to go with him to the fishing hole to find his fishing rod.

Ben wasn't sure. But he wanted his fishing rod back. So he said yes.

Helena insisted that the boys have breakfast before they leave.

"Peter, you can go to the barn and get your brother." The family sat at the breakfast table, and when they finished, Ben went to his room to get dressed.

Then he ran to his uncle to tell him that he was ready and that they could leave now.

"Then let us go. We have a long way in front of us. You can wait for me downstairs." Ben nodded and ran out of the room toward the stairs but turned one more time around. He could see that his uncle Peter took something out of the drawer and tucked it into the inside of his jacket.

He shrugged and slid down the banister. "That was funny," he thought and laughed. But his mother didn't like it.

Helena was about to shout at her son when Peter came down the stairs.
