The events of October 28th, 1943 are often debated as facts being covered up or a hoax. On that date The USS Eldridge was reportedly seen in the Naval Shipyard in Philadelphia before it vanished and reappeared after supposedly being teleported to a Naval facility in Norfolk, Virginia. The aftermath of this teleportation resulted in sailors becoming sick, left with burns, onset of mental illness and some even became fused to the ship. Supposedly, after the experiment all the sailors onboard were brainwashed so they would not recall the events. So, you may be wondering if all the sailors were brainwashed how did anyone find out? Well two “sources” of the events slowly shared their stories.

The first was a man named Carl M Allen who also went by Carlos Miguel Allende. Allende wrote letter correspondences to Morris Jessup about several topics mostly concerning UFO’s and extraterrestrial technology. In these correspondences Allende alleged that the government had conducted experiments with this extraterrestrial technology to further Einstein’s unified field theory. Allende claimed to have witnessed the events from a nearby ship the SS Andrew Furuseth. However, according to Naval records the Eldridge was never in Philadelphia or Norfolk in October 1943 and was instead in New York. Port diaries also show the SS Andrew Furuseth to have left Philadelphia on October 25th ,1943 as part of a convoy.

Then in 1956 a year after Jessup published his book “The Case for UFO’s” a mysterious copy of the book found its was to the Office of Naval Research (ONR). This was no ordinary copy however this copy had handwritten notes written within. These notes appeared to be from three different individuals one of which was likely an extraterrestrial being. Among the notes was a mention of the Eldridge and experiments conducted onboard to make the ship invisible. Two officers within the ONR took a high interest in the book and after consulting with Jessup concluded that all the notes where in fact written by Allende. The two officers also had 127 copies of the book with the added notes published by a military contractor Varo Manufacturing. These copies became known as the “Varo Copies”.

A few important things to note is that the military was conducting experiments in the Philadelphia Naval shipyard at the time. These experiments however were more simplistic in nature. One such was using higher frequency generators to see their effectiveness and compatibility with its vessels. This occurred on the USS Timmerman. Also, according to a crewmember of the USS Engstrom stated that while docked next to the Eldridge in Philadelphia both ships were equipped with degaussing equipment. This equipment was used to attempt to alter the ships electromagnetic field making it difficult to be detected by torpedoes deployed by U-boats essentially making it “invisible” from a certain point of view.

The second individual who claims to have firsthand knowledge of the experiment is Al Bielek. Bielek claimed he became a time traveling agent because of The Philadelphia Experiment. Having grown up having knowledge of things he did not remember learning found himself in 1988 viewing a movie that set of flashback of a previous life. The movie was no other than “The Philadelphia Experiment” and after viewing the movie Bielek sought the help of not only mental health professionals but also psychics to help understand these new memories. Bielek came to the conclusion that he was really a man named Edward Cameron who along with his brother Duncan were station onboard the Eldridge in 1943. After the experiment began and the vessel was transporting locations the Cameron brothers jumped overboard after experiencing an ill feeling. When the two woke up they were in a hospital in the year 2137. After two weeks the brothers then traveled to the year 2749 where they spent the next two years. Soon they were sent back to 1983 to conduct time travel mission for the US Government. After a failed mission Bielek claims distrust of him grew and so he received new assignments. Now, instead of traveling forward intime he was sent to the past until he reached the year of his birth. This was thought to erase him from existence by his superiors. However, it caused him to be reborn in the body of Al Bielek.

Did any of these events actually occur? It would seem to reason that they did not. Yet I do find it odd that two individuals of the ONR took such a high interest in the copy of Jessup’s book with Allende’s notes. Also, I think it is important to remember that the Eldridge had recently transited through the Bermuda Triangle in September of 1943. I think it may be a possible delayed side effect of the Bermuda Triangle mixed with the experiments with electromagnetism may leave these unlikely events to have a small chance of possibility to them.
