Writing from the 1800's
This is a weird dream that I had many years ago. Still can not make sense of it. I believe that sometimes they are just a made-up story in your head, your dreams. Not all of them should make sense.

There is an ancient Transylvanian legend [1] of an old, abandoned house, overlooking a cemetery. Each evening, a woman dressed in the black habit of a nun goes to a little white cross, and bending, raises her fists to heaven, sobbing uncontrollably. Her sobs, though, are not sobs borne of sadness; they are curses.

Some sage comic of the stand-up variety once observed that, if you slightly rearranged the letters in the title of the execrable Dustin Hoffman and Warren Beatty film Ishtar, you got the word "Shitar". Which sounds just as bad. I suppose you could pronounce it exactly as it is spelled, and it would sound like the word "shitter." Which is an apt enough description of where that particular movie belongs.

It was quiet. Smelled like dust with a side of spilled beer and Lysol. But it was just what I needed, a respite from the torrid sun. A place where I could sit at the bar, uninterrupted in my reflection.

“Daniel, have you knocked snow off the tents yet?” Aunt Kristie was busying herself in the kitchen. Making desserts was a popular pastime of hers, and everyone at tomorrow night’s church gathering would be expecting them. She could have looked out the arctic entry window to see the tents herself, but I knew better than to suggest she walk away from her mixing bowls.

We hurried along the riverbank like fearful rodents. The night was lit brightly by the light of a full moon. We dashed from one patch of shadow to the next, hoping that the river’s rustling current would muffle the sound of our footsteps.
