You're Bill
I like riding the subway. It always reminds me that things could be worse. It's riskier than it was when I was young. Many passengers want a ride to a fight, and can't wait to get there. They will start one with you, if the teeth of the craving get too sharp.

When Sacramento needed blood...
Sacramento, California. December 1977. There was nothing remarkable about a man unloading groceries outside his home. An ordinary task, performed in an ordinary neighborhood, during the final days of an ordinary year. Fifty-one-year-old Ambrose Griffin had no reason to suspect that the simple act of returning home would place him in the path of a killer. On December 29, 1977, Griffin was shot and killed. No apparent robbery, no obvious personal dispute, and no clear reason for the attack. To investigators, the killing posed a deeply troubling question: Who would shoot a stranger without motive? The answer would emerge over the following month, and by the time police found it, five more people would be dead. The name Richard Trenton Chase would become associated with one of California’s most disturbing murder investigations. Newspapers and true-crime accounts gave him a moniker that sounded like something out of a horror novel: The Vampire of Sacramento. But there was nothing supernatural about Richard Chase. That was the most frightening part.

“Don’t venture out unless necessary. Strong winds are a threat to life.” A red warning had been issued on all the news stations. The gale was soon to turn into a storm and everyone better stay locked in their homes. This was the worst December weather the town had experienced in thirty years. I prayed that the storm would subside in time for Christmas Day in a week’s time. My parents would be counting on me to go home.

Beware the Sacred Indian Burial Ground. 🔥
Hikers and campers all tell the same story. If you walk upon, or near the site of the Indian burial ground of Wampum Hill, or the surrounding forest...you will hear the chanting of the Native Americans echoing upon the air. No one can pinpoint exactly where it originates or where it ends, for the Indians have long been laid to rest. It's just there. Some have even recorded it as proof.

The Ward Below
The asylum had been abandoned for thirty-seven years. Everyone in Blackwood knew why. Blackwood Psychiatric Hospital sat at the end of a dead road, surrounded by trees so thick that even sunlight seemed reluctant to enter. Three of its four floors remained standing, though the uppermost had partially collapsed. The windows were boarded. Ivy strangled the walls. Rusted ambulances sat beneath a crumbling overhang beside the emergency entrance.
