Justice for Paige Johnson
The hearing to set the trial of Jacob Bumpass occurred on October 27, 2020. He is being charged for abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence. His charges involve Paige Johnson, a young mother from Covington, Kentucky who vanished on September 23, 2010. She was with Bumpass that evening. He claimed he dropped her off at 5th and Scott Blvd in Covington, Kentucky. However, his cellphone pinged at a location in Clermont, County Ohio early September 24, 2010. After being out with Bumpass that evening, no one ever saw Paige alive again.

And So, I Wait
The long stone corridor, which once had been well kept and illuminated with torches, which in turn had hung from the polished brass sconces, was in disrepair. The only way to tell that the corridor existed at all was by the light of a single torch, held up by my own hand which was neither polished nor brass. Of course, I knew it was there before I arrived, because in the daytime when I usually passed by these ruins, it was quite visible. I passed the site hundreds of times before this night, but only now ventured within the crumbling stone walls, down into corridors that, like this one, were dark and foreboding. There was no real reason for me being there that night, save for the sense of adventure I had harbored for a long time. My footsteps echoed as I walked, making me certain that the corridor continued for quite some time, but I had no doubts or worries. I was alone, here, in the dark and the gloom. Water occasionally dripped from unseen sources, and a few times a large rat scurried across my path, as I wandered deeper into the abandoned ruins.

Spooky Attractions
Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays and times of the year. I am still not sure if Christmas beats it… Anyways, there is always something attractive in creeps in the dark, mysteries hidden in the shadows, secrets that may be unveiled. I think it is actually the main thrill and allure of the scare is to decide whether or not we want to know what's hidden, whether or not we want to see it and how far we can go to find out. Like, if you are at the graveyard would you actually want to know that afterlife exists and SEE a ghost? And if you do, then what?

As It Is In Hell
What is it about the supernatural that intrigues human beings so much? Is it that we struggle to fathom the concept that there's more than the realm we experience? Or is it simply because we're all secretly obsessed with anything considered dark or taboo? I pondered these things on my way home from school yesterday when something told me to take a different route home. I can't say what it was exactly; not a voice, more like...a feeling. Like someone or something had implanted this vague thought into my mind and the next thing I knew, I was turning down a street I had never walked down before. The street was completely empty, which was odd for this part of town that's usually known for children playing in the yards, moms out walking with strollers, and teenagers playing basketball while blaring loud music. No, this street was different. Every house was quiet. Even the light from the setting sun seemed to morph from its once dazzling array of orange and gold to a dull stormy grey. I quickened my pace and kept walking, anxious to make it to the next street to my house. That's when I saw it. I don't know what made me turn and even look in this direction in the first place but there it was between two garbage bins filled with trash that looked and smelled like it had sat there for weeks. It was a book, old and worn. The cover was stained with god knows what and the pages had yellowed with time but there it was. I don't know what drove me to pick it up but the next thing I knew, I was running home with it neatly tucked under my arm as if the world was trying to steal it from me. The relief I felt entering my front door was breathtaking. But relief from what? What was I so anxious for? Why was I so dead set on bringing this book home? I put on a pot of coffee and sat down at the table with my new find. The cover had a strange symbol on the front that looked strangely like a pentagram merged with an upside down cross merged with...a goat head? I instantly knew I should have thrown it away. I was raised catholic after all. But then there was that vague thought in my head again that said..."open it." So I did. I can't even fully explain what happened next but the closest thing I can equate it to was a near death experience. You know how they say right before you die you experience your entire life all over again in the period of like five seconds? Well that's what happened except it wasn't my life I was looking at. I was seeing...people. People in agony. People screaming in torment and pain. But what was truly strange was that in the midst of all that, I felt none of the misery I was seeing around me. I felt like I was literally there next to these people but I was separated at the same time. Protected almost. Once the vision was gone I just sat there for a while trying to catch my breath. Once I could breath normally I decided to start reading. The book was basically an instruction manual for...something that I couldn't quite understand. But at this point I had to try and see what it was. I needed a dark room and candles. I ran to the storage closet and grabbed as many candles as I could find and placed them in a circle. Then I turned off the lights. I immediately felt like there was something else in the room with me but for some reason I didn't fear it. The next step was a passage I had to read aloud. Looking over it I realized it was a prayer...the Lord's Prayer in fact. But it had been altered.

The People In The Picture
It was in the middle of summer, but this day was cooler than the other days. I had a doctor's appointment that day to get to at a specific time. The time that we left was earlier than intended. It is always better arriving early than late. I took my phone out along the way to take some pictures. My appointment was outside of Marion that would take about 2 hours to get to. I had taken several pictures of all the things that had caught my attention. On a side road that was a shortcut, I could see a house behind the trees. I decided to take a picture of it. I only looked at the picture for a short time because there were several other spots that I had seen along the way that I wanted to take a picture of.

Angel Baby
There are so many things that happen in our lives for which we simply cannot explain. For this challenge I have submitted a photograph taken over 20 years ago which captured a true surreal experience. Instead of portraying something spooky, which could potentially haunt one for a time to come; this picture embodies an angelic encounter. I have often drawn upon the positive energy emanated from this event over the years whenever I have felt down and needed a sign of hope.

October 30th
His heart finally stopped racing but a headache was nagging him near his right temple. Ryan stopped sobbing as the paramedics quickly arrived to help him out of his mangled convertible. Even though the car had to be towed, he felt okay and declined a ride to an area hospital.
