A Film Addict Reviews! Psycho
I have always been curious about film history and how it influenced the films of today. The films of yesteryears are always curious cause they start certain genres. For example, we have Jaws and Star Wars to thank for the blockbusters of today. Star Wars was influenced by Akira Kurosawa samurai films and Flash Gordon and now its massively popular. The films that inspire others to create are usually the most interesting due to the fact they were testing the new grounds of that genre and Psycho is no different.

Rosemary's Bastard
This Review contains some spoilers. Before turning on Rosemary’s Baby, I had heard much praise from many different friends, many I know through theatre, are avid film buffs like me, or have just said it’s worth watching Along with those I mentioned who I know personally, I’ve heard many critics talk about how much they loved this film. One of my favorite authors, Stephen King, was among them. So with all of this in mind going into the movie, I was beyond excited. However, after finishing the movie, I was more than disappointed, I was pissed. Watching this movie made me angry, which is something that rarely happens to me with films. But this film, from beginning to end, made me mad. And since we’re in the wonderful month of October, with horror movies coming out of our ears in preparation for Halloween, I felt it was appropriate to warn you all who perhaps haven’t seen this film before you waist any portions of your valuable time.

Anyone familiar with the original versions of classic fairy tales like “Hansel and Gretel” already knows that they have lots of horror movie potential. As a rule though, most attempts to capture these tales on film tend to miss the mark. It’s clear from the conspicuous reversal of the titular names that Gretel & Hansel hopes to distinguish itself from the rest of the pack right from the get-go, but does it actually do the job, or are you better off spending 90 minutes of your time on some other film?

Halloween is coming !!!!
The month of October. Halloween month. That means at the end of this month it’s all about this worldwide celebrated holiday. A tradition with Celtic roots where mass dressing up parties arise and the television stations look through their horror catalog so they can treat their viewers to all kinds of creepy horror flicks. Coincidentally, a Horror Challenge was organized on my favorite Dutch film website. The result is a whole series of horror movies that I’ve watched in the last three weeks. So, if you don’t know what to watch at the end of this month, let me give you an overview of what I have discovered. Obviously, there are some gems in between them. And some films you’d better avoid because they are too crappy. But you have to decide that yourself. Here we go ……

It wasn’t long ago that the genre of horror was emerging from the film industry with some of the most innovative and original horror flicks that were scaring even the most tolerant of people. Even though it was quite fresh in the 60s and 70s, the majority of audiences were ready and intrigued to meet these ominous villains and messy killings and there were even cases of participants having to leave the cinema or throwing up at stomach churning scenes from movies like ‘The Silence of the Lambs ‘(1991) or ‘The Thing’ (1982). Unfortunately, this level of novelty and resonating fear has been lost in the recent decades, due to the detrimental rise of teen slashers and ‘torture-porn’.

‘The Mortuary Collection’ Is at Once Horrifying and Adorable
When I noticed the name Clancy Brown in The Mortuary Collection‘s description, it was all the motivation I needed. He is one of my favorite character actors. In fact, he’s so good, he even makes things like Pet Sematary II watchable.
