Review of “13 Slays Till X-Mas”, A Horror, Christmas Anthology
Blood Moon Pictures has given horror fans far and wide the latest Blu-ray to drop for pre-order on Scream Team Releasing: “13 Slays Till X-Mas”, a bloodsoakingly good horror anthology from creator, director, writer and producer P.J. Starks, known for “Volumes of Blood”, and writer, director and producer Eric Huskisson that features 13 Christmas-themed stories. The anthology film collaboration with several indie filmmakers is as wholesome of a terror fest as it is gruesome, and even as we’ve entered February, the Christmas aspect of “13 Slays Till X-Mas” is a year-round type of enjoyable (and not to mention, we’ve needed more holiday horror in the genre!).

Reed's Horror Review, Castle Freak (1995) and (2020), a Comparison.
Don’t get me wrong, I like the original Castle Freak (1995) but it never really merited a full review. Compared to the other works of H. P. Lovecraft that got turned into movies (Re-Animator (1985), From Beyond (1986), Dagon (2001), Color Out of Space (2019)), it’s just ho-hum. The other movies are balls-out bonkers and way more entertaining. Effectively, for Castle Freak (1995), there is nothing to review.

Maya is a word used primarily by Hindus and Buddhists to denote the world of "illusion"; the false world of physical suffering, where "existence is pain." Beyond this, this illusion that keeps us chained to Samsara, the "Wheel of Rebirth," is "Moksha," a state of being reabsorbed into the "All"; or, to be somehow beyond suffering, because beyond desire. (Moksha is called by Buddhists "Nirvana"). In other words, the dissolution of the illusion of impermanent, transitory, and tormenting physical existence.

Review of “The Silent Lay Steady”, A Short Horror Film
In the world of independent film, specifically the horror genre, it is very rare to find artists embark on creating a short or feature film that includes anything regarding the paranormal. This may be harder to budget for an indie project; the ghosts and ghouls can rack up a hefty price tag between the lighting, makeup, costuming and effects that usually coincide with filming a supernatural horror. The 2020 released short titled “The Silent Lay Steady” proves that you can achieve that same sense of spooktacular phenomenon on a shoestring budget with the perfected formula of silence, music, sound effects, photography and tension. Directed and written by Canadian filmmaker Travis Laidlaw, who’s latest short “Dead House” has landed it’s place on the horror streaming YouTube channel ALTER, this visually pleasing short is one for the books. Your heart won’t stop racing.

Dracula (1931)
Stilted, strange; a surreal yet gripping and ultimately unforgettable cinematic experience, Todd Browning's original 1931 production of Dracula, starring the sad, tragic yet incomparable Bela Lugosi (a man whose shadow and strange legend still shine darkly across the six decades since his death), is a film few moderns have seen. Or, at least we take it to be so. (Once, when asking a group of young kids playing a vampire-themed roleplaying game if any of their vamps looked like Bela Lugosi, the ringleader answered with a puzzled, "Who?" I suppose since they were all probably all of sixteen, they can be forgiven.)

Held (2020) Review
If you’re a fan of The Gallows and its sequel The Gallows: Act II, then you’re already familiar with Travis Cluff and Chris Lofing, the directing duo behind both films. Held is their latest offering, a tech-era tale of a long-standing marriage in trouble. It stars Jill Awbrey and Bart Johnson in the two leads and Rez Kempton, Zack Gold, Jener Dasilva, and Tessa Munro in small supporting roles. (Awbrey also penned the screenplay for the film.)

Death of Me (2020): Movie Review
It’s a bold move to reference The Wicker Man in a film so clearly inspired by it. Unfortunately, it appears to be the only bold decision Death of Me makes during its 94 minute run.
