So who loves a good horror movie? I do!!

We have so many good horror movie monsters and everyone has there own favourite, however we are going to look at who comes out on top based on kill count throughout their respective movie franchises.

So, without further ado, here we go:

Number 5

Freddy Krueger

Fred

I'm not gonna lie, I actually thought he would rank higher than this, but starting us off at Number 5 is everyone's Dream Man - Freddy Krueger.

Freddy has been terrorising teenagers dreams since way back in 1984 when the very first Nightmare On Elm Street was released. The creation of the late great Wes Craven, Freddy's reign would span decades through 9 films (with Robert Englund) and one remake, in 2010 (with Jackie Earl Hayley taking over the reigns). The film series would become so successful that New Line Cinema, the company who produced the movies, became known as the "house that Freddy built". Whilst not everyone was a fan of the sequels or remakes, there's no denying Freddy has cemented himself as a huge part of Horror culture worldwide, even showing up in other forms of media, such as comics and TV. Let's also not forget his small rap career lol.

Interesting fact - The first Nightmare On Elm Street marks the debut appearance of Johnny Depp. He also had a small cameo in Final Nightmare in the drug commercial witnessed by the character Spencer, just before Freddy hits him with a frying pan in the face.

Kill count - 42

Number 4

Pinhead

Pinhead

Through talking to a lot of people, Pinhead seems to be the least known out of our list. This may be due to the lack of big releases as, whilst he appears in 10 movies, most of them went straight to VHS or DVD and didn't get the big screen treatment as much as the rest. Based on the book The Hellbound Heart by Clive Barker, the first Hellraiser film came out in 1987 meaning Pinhead has also been at this a long time. He too has his own comic book series and there are plans to have a Hellraiser TV show, so we could see this kill count increase??

Whilst the series did go through quite a bit of a decline with the sequels and a lot of the films haven't aged well, the first two still remain fantastic entries into the horror genre and are still definitely worth a watch.

Interesting Fact - Believe it or not, but following the release of Freddy vs Jason, there were talks of a Hellrasier vs Halloween crossover, which would pit Michael Myers and Pinhead against one another. Clive Barker was going to write it and John Carpenter direct, however Moustapha Akkad (who owned the rights to Halloween at the time) extinguished the idea.

Kill count - 59

Number 3

Chucky - A.K.A Charles Lee Ray

chucky

Chucky is similar to Pinhead in that he too became less popular and known over time due to sequels being released straight to DVD as opposed to having theatrical releases. Chucky's reign began back in 1988 with the first film, Child's Play based on a story by Don Mancini (who has remained part of the franchise throughout). He has had 8 films, most recent of which was a remake, which sought to try and update the story slightly, making it a bit more modern and has racked up an impressive kill count throughout the franchise. Like Pinhead and Freddy, Chucky too has made the jump into comic book form and a TV series has been greenlit.

Interesting Fact - Chucky was originally voice by horror alum Brad Dourif, who then went on to play Sheriff Brackett in the Rob Zombie Halloween remakes. However, in the reboot, he was voice by none other than Luke Skywalker himself - Mark Hamill, who also provided the voice of the Joker throughout the 90's in the Batman Animated Adventures and Arkham game series.

Kill Count - 74

Number 2

Michael Myers

Big Mick

Missing out on the top stop is the Silent Assassin himself, Michael Myers. Created by the brilliant John Carpenter, Michael has been around since the original Halloween released in 1978, making him the oldest on the list.

With 10 films in total (and two still to come), Michael has done some damage in his time and truly left his mark (can you tell he's my favourite lol). A break was taken for Halloween 3, as Carpenter wanted to start making an anthology series, focusing on different stories, however it wasn't long before he was brought back due to demand and the not so great performance of the third film.

Again, like previous entries on the list, Michael has made the move into comics as well as books and continues to be a huge part of the world of horror. Whilst some of the sequels aren't amazing, the overall franchise has performed extremely well, especially the 2018 reboot. The Rob Zombie remakes weren't everyone's cup of tea, but I still think he did justice to the character in the end.

Interesting Fact - Actress Danielle Harris played the part of Jamie Lloyd - the daughter of Jamie Lee Curtis's character Laurie from the originals (later retconned, as where many parts of the story) in Halloween 4 and 5 respectively, also played the part of Annie Brackett in the Rod Zombie remakes. As a bonus fact, Paul Rudd (Ant-Man, Mike from friends) makes his movie debut in Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers.

Kill count - 121

Number 1

Jason Vorhees

Jason

So here we are, at Number 1. The silent, but deadly, hulking figure in a hockey mask, Jason Vorhees. Whilst the first Friday the 13th was released in 1980, it was actually his mother - Pamela Vorhees who was the killer in this. Jason wouldn't show up properly until the sequel, released in 1981. Even then, he wouldn't don the trademark hockey mask until the third film.

Jason has appeared in a whopping 11 films, again not all great, (technically 12 if you count the "cameo" at the end of the first film) which includes sequels, a reboot and a cross over with number 5 monster, Freddy Krueger in the 2003 crossover Freddy vs Jason. He's been everywhere from New York to Hell to Space (Jason X, what a film!) and has left a long trail of bodies in his wake.

Unfortunately, the film franchise has been locked in a legal battle for the last few years so it's unlikely we'll see anything anytime soon, however Jason is one of, if not the most recognisable horror movie villain there is. Like Michael Myers, he has become the living embodiment of evil and a killer that no one seems to be able to stop for very long.

Interesting Fact - The third film in the franchise (which was 3D by the way), was released in August 1982, when E.T was dominating theatres and actually knocked it off the top spot on the box office.

Kill Count - 157

So there you have it. The top 5 Horror Movie Monsters based on their kill counts throughout their respective franchises. If you made it to the end, I just want to say a big thank you and hope you enjoyed reading it and perhaps maybe learned something you didn't before.

If you enjoyed this, check out some of my previous writing and feel free to drop a heart.
