Is 'Split' Scary? The 10 Most Shocking Moments From M. Night Shyamalan's Horror
I have trouble dealing with one personality, let alone 24, but James McAvoy seems to be winning over critics in M. Night Shyamalan's latest blockbuster. Billed as a psychological thriller akin to the rest of Shyamalan's work, Split has thrown its hat into the ring as one of 2017's best horrors; all that and it only came out in January. In a year of resurrecting Jigsaw, chestbursting xenomorphs, and another round of Child's Play, how does #Split bring home the bacon in the #horror stakes?
Tom ChapmanPublished 6 years ago in Horror'Underworld: Blood Wars' Sucks The Life Out Of The Franchise With Disastrous Opening Weekend
Uh oh, it looks like bad news for the Underworld universe, as Underworld: Blood Wars has been slain by the competition in cinemas with a frankly frightful opening weekend. We here at Movie Pilot, we already tipped Blood Wars to be something of a marmite affair, even calling the death of #KateBeckinsale's career one of 2016's saddest on-screen deaths. However, it is now official that Blood Wars sucks. Perhaps we should have stuck a stake through the heart of Lycans vs. vamps after the fourth film.
Tom ChapmanPublished 6 years ago in HorrorReinventing The Zombie Genre: 'The Girl With All The Gifts' Is The Best Present You Still Need To Open
While the wave of reanimated corpses still has us as gripped in 2017 as in the Romero days of 1968, Hollywood struggles more and more for a way to keep us infected with our fascination with #zombies. Just as 28 Days Later reinvented the zombie genre with fast-moving munchers, 2016's The Girl with All the Gifts gives another spin on the tale, putting children at the forefront of the outbreak, used as both a weapon and a cure for zombification.
Tom ChapmanPublished 6 years ago in HorrorThe Thing: Make Horror Great Again
In the current wave of modern horror movies, many audience members have been accustomed to the infamous “jump scare.” The music increases in tempo, the surrounding noises are drowned out, and before the audience has time to prepare itself for the incoming scare, the villain jumps out at the main character (and the viewer) making the audience’s heart skip a beat. Although there are some films that are able to correctly utilize a jump scare (think of the twins from The Shining) modern horror movies have fallen guilty to creating predictable jump scares that don’t necessarily “scare” us, just end up startling us. Regan from The Exorcist terrified audiences not because her screen time was accompanied by thunderous music and quick cuts, but because audiences were generally terrified by the practical effects, suspenseful atmosphere and haunting tone that had already been established throughout the movie.
Joseph PozoPublished 6 years ago in HorrorYou'd Better Chuck Up Your Ideas: Horror Icon Returns In 'Cult Of Chucky' Teaser Trailer
Alongside evil clowns, masked murderers, and Slendermen, possessed dolls are probably the creepiest creatures out there in the horror world. As one of horror's longest-surviving film franchises, Brad Dourif's #Chucky will once again return for the seventh #ChildsPlay film later this year: Cult of Chucky.
Tom ChapmanPublished 6 years ago in Horror2016 Is A Scream: Someone Just Turned The Worst Year Ever Into A Horror Film!
When a trailer contains the words "guys, they shot a gorilla," you know you ain't about to watch The Jungle Book, and the latest horror film from YouTubers Friend Dog Studios is an ode to the year that has been. 2016 may have been a great year for the horror genre as the likes of Hush, Don't Breathe, and Holidays have kept us hiding behind the sofa, but what if 2016 had actually been a horror film itself?
Tom ChapmanPublished 6 years ago in HorrorFancy a Descent Through Hell Itself? 'The Void' Is Waiting for You
A bloodied man, a dilapidated hospital and a cult of worshipers carrying daggers are just some of the ingredients in the cosmic horror flick #TheVoid. It's the latest in this never-ending '80s-inspired train of movies. The difference? This one actually kicks some serious ass! It's from the warped imagination of VFX and design masters Steven Kostanski and Jeremy Gillespie. Does it honestly deliver the horror goods, you ask? Well, you better hold on to something as I take you through this psychological mind-bender personally.

Have you ever been channel hopping on late-night TV and come across a movie so weird that you're instantly hooked? If not, then you're probably more adjusted than me. If you HAVE, then #MotivationalGrowth is the movie for YOU. A housebound weirdo vs. a talking pile of mold — sound good? Hang on to your hat as I take you within the bowels of this surreal #horrorbmovie.
Matt LoftusPublished 6 years ago in HorrorBefore 'TWD,' Norman Reedus Faced Horror in John Carpenter's 'Cigarette Burns'
If you're super fans of #NormanReedus on #TheWalkingDead, then you've patiently waited for his return in the second half of Season 7. Some of you out there can't get enough of his portrayal of bad-boy biker Daryl and have stated you'll even "riot" if he gets killed on the show. I personally love TWD and can't wait to see what happens in the latter half of the season; Negan's not going to be easy to beat that's for sure.
Matt LoftusPublished 6 years ago in HorrorWhy 'Beyond the Gates' Failed to Deliver a True VHS Horror Masterpiece
Hardcore horror fans of that bygone era where you could stroll into your local video store and pick up a couple of day rentals have no doubt heard of this film. #BeyondTheGates is a retro-feel movie set in the pre-digital era, and at first glance, looked to be a cult classic. However, after watching the movie myself, I have to say it fails to deliver on its promises and ironically has become yet another movie that deserves to become a deleted title, much like the low-budget horror that used to get churned out back in the '80s video boom. So hold and tight and let's reel through this movie and check out what holds it back from greatness.

Horror fans will be flocking to the cinema this week to see the James Wan-produced movie Lights Out. Directed by first-time director David F. Sandberg, it boasts some truly original scares in a genre that all too often falls into cliche and bad writing (and that's coming from a fan). In celebration of this event Let's take a look at six short films from David's back catalog to get a better look at his skills as a filmmaker.
Matt LoftusPublished 6 years ago in HorrorWhy Kate Beckinsale's Hair May Be the Key to Underworld: Blood Wars
It appears as though the Underworld series is finally getting a new and possible final chapter to the films that began in 2003. The trailer for Underworld: Blood Wars dropped on Wednesday, and while it doesn't tell us much of the plot, it's obvious that the rivalry between Vampires and Lycans is still alive and well.
