Ejected from my sleep, covered in cold sweat, brought on by the traumatic events conducted by the hideous characters that haunt my nights, my dreams. I am consistently tied as while others rest peacefully, I spend the dark hours running, screaming, and trying to fight these monsters that only exist in my head. Even so, they are as real as you or me in my opinion.

At the End of the World
I light my last cigarette and let my legs dangle off of the roof, watching as the Plagued swarm around our last defenses. This is my last sunset, the last cigarette, my last chance to say goodbye to my partner from the beginning to the end, and probably the last chance I'll get to put a bullet in our heads so that we don't become like them. I exhale a plume of bluish grey smoke, watching as it fades away and disappears as it rises into the sky.

Part 2: Level 1 Chapter 2: New Findings At this point, my nerves were still haywire from the shock of waking up to an unfamiliar place, my interactions with the figure, and straight up fear of the unknown. The figures' quick reappearance shook my senses even more. My hands were shaking, my breath ragged, and my body felt like jello. I hadn’t heard any sound coming from the other rooms since I stepped out into the hallway, but that didn’t mean there wasn’t danger beyond what I currently saw. In the room where I had woken up, there was safety in knowing that there were four walls and a door between me and the outside, but danger could have been around any corner.

Downturn
Today the CDC announced revised self-isolation guidance for government and private employers. Self-isolation is now optional, and employers may grant or not grant it to symptomatic employees as they see fit. Virologists across the country are protesting these new regulations, stating this will only open the door for increased infections and chances for the virus to mutate into more virulent strains. This news comes amid the city-wide healthcare and public transportation workers' strike over last week's decision by the mayor's office to eliminate masking and social distancing mandates under pressure from anti-mask protests. In other news, NIH officials have stated that there is no evidence that the Omega variant is behind the increased strength and aggression of patients and any studies with these findings have yet to be peer-reviewed.
