Horror fiction that delivers on its promise to scare, startle, frighten and unsettle. These stories are fake, but the shivers down your spine won't be.
The Move
A flash of lightning suddenly lights up the dark and lifeless room. It’s quickly followed by the sound of thunder, which vibrates throughout the mundane walls. The solitary window seems impenetrable yet shutters at the gusts of wind which come with the brewing storm. A thin shy girl looks around the four plain walls in despair, wiping away a solitary tear as her long dark hair blows across her face. As if moving through cement she drags her feet closer to the slightly opened window and peers outside. The floor below seems thousands of feet away and she becomes mesmerized by the distance.

Carnival: Children's Toys
Charlie was a small boy, no more than 5. Charlie’s favorite thing was cookies and stuffed animals. In that order. One day, Charlie was playing in his dad’s backyard. He had come to like being there with all his toys. He didn’t mind all the yelling anymore. If it got bad, he would close his eyes and imagine playing with the toys. He knew he could always be happy in his imagination with his toys. Something always interrupted though. Like when his father pulled him from the backyard, through his mom’s house, past his mom holding her fancy clear cup, past his dad, into the car, and headed to his father’s house. This is how Charlie understood weekends.

Jeffry Hates Jack-O-Lanterns
Jeffrey Hated Jack-o-Lanterns This was a problem since his Home Town was known as the Jack O Lantern capital of the United States. Every year, the town was host to thousands, if not millions, of carved horrors. It had become a point of pride for the small midwestern town. The town had been full of pumpkins since its founding back in the eighteen hundreds, and the town was filled with glowing, grinning gourds from September till April. The public commons had three large greenhouses that grew pumpkins during the cold months, and no citizen had to pay for a pumpkin. Jeffry was pretty sure that it came out of their taxes, along with road work and the police force.

Dear Heart
I’m planting tulips when I hear them. Voices, drifting smoke-like through the trees. Standing, I listen, staring at the bare earth. Thinking of the tulips that, come spring, will press through the dirt to spread white petals for the sun. They’re Swan Wings. Agatha’s favourite.

The unjust soul in the well
When I was young, we had a well in our yard, but my father still went to the west side of the village early every morning to fetch water. He pushed a big, old, heavy bicycle, tied a bucket to the left and right sides of the back frame, and put me on top of the back frame, trudging along.

Logan the Sleepwalker
Since I was a child, I have heard the old man say that sleepwalking is very scary. Sleepwalkers will do some horrible and strange things, for example, go to the cemetery in the middle of the night to dig up human bones, bring them home and hide them under the bed, then go to bed and go back to sleep, and wake up the next day without knowing anything.

Ghosts come back for children
I am a police officer. Once, I went to a small town in the middle of nowhere to work on a case, and when things were done, it was already dark. And in this remote town, traffic is also closed, and once dark, there is no car out, I had to find a hostel in the town to stay for the night.

A Fate Worst of All
Perhaps it was the sudden temperature drop from the previous days or the clear night sky allowing the moon to shine brightly across the city, but Detective Finely knew she would be approaching something sinister that night. Driving through the bright and busy streets of downtown she began to notice less and less vehicles as she entered the darker side of town where the lights were dim and everyone asleep. The only light that shined bright was the flashing of red and blue lights. She gulped as her vehicle approached the scene, noticing not a single officer moving. They were all surrounding something in the entrance of an alleyway, between two apartment buildings. A few people had their heads hanging out their window, others were out on their fire escapes, just to see what was going on.

Carnival: Hop To It
Jason was running down a hallway, he fell to the ground and looked around frantically. His only light being that of the blinking red emergency light. Thinking he was safe, Jason slowly got to his feet. Nothing to his left. Nothing to his right. Nothing where he came from. Just him and the blinking red light. Still looking around, he reached behind himself. Reaching for the emergency exit that would lead to the alley. The emergency exit suddenly had the silhouette of a rabbit costume outside of the window. Watching. Jason.

The Case of the Eight Dancing Scarecrows
Detective Lance pulled up in front of the farmhouse, marveling at the way the corn rattled in the field. The corn was wrong, he could tell that right away, and Lance could honestly say he had never seen corn look that way. The husks were brown, the corn inside turning black as it rotted on the stalk. He had been impressed by the amount of corn surrounding the farmhouse, acres of skeletal stalks that made the farmhouse feel more like an island in a dead corn sea. The police cars out front looked out of place in the dirt yard, and as he mounted the stairs, one of the rural cops came out to meet him.
