Horror fiction that delivers on its promise to scare, startle, frighten and unsettle. These stories are fake, but the shivers down your spine won't be.
The Hungry Dark
Deep in the Appalachian foothills, the Airbnb sat nestled among the trees, promising tranquility. Jason had booked it to celebrate his promotion with his friends Tina, Derek, Lisa, and Emily. The photos had painted an idyllic picture: misty woods, a wraparound porch, and an old stone fireplace. But as they arrived, the charm of the place faded.

Whispering Shadows
The apartment was silent except for the occasional creak of the old wooden floorboards. Emily sat cross-legged on her bed, the dim glow of the bedside lamp casting long, soft shadows against the walls. She stared at her reflection in the cracked mirror across the room. Her lips moved, but no sound escaped.

The Whispering Veil
On the outskirts of a forgotten town lay the crumbling remains of an old manor known as Blackthorn House. Locals whispered of its curse: anyone who stepped inside would never be the same again. Some said you could hear the house breathe, others claimed the shadows had lives of their own. But the most chilling tale was of the Veil—a heavy, moth-eaten curtain in the manor’s parlor that no one dared touch.

Pathogen, Ch. 2
"I'm home," Marnie called through the open kitchen door, barely hiding the cringe in her voice. As expected, sharp footsteps answered from up the hall, marching swiftly and with purpose toward Marnie's doom. Within a minute, her mom's stern face came into view.

Echoes in the Mist. AI-Generated.
Mira had always been the kind of person who laughed in the face of superstition. The stories of strange disappearances, of voices in the trees, and of the creeping mist that swallowed whole forests seemed too far-fetched to take seriously. Yet there was something about the tales surrounding Ashwood Forest, an old, forgotten stretch of trees just outside town, that she couldn’t ignore.

The House That Waits
The house had always been too quiet, too perfect in its decay. Jason found it on a whim—an old Victorian on the outskirts of town, barely visible through the overgrowth of ivy and twisted trees. The price was laughable, almost as if they were begging him to buy it.

Reflections of Darkness
Emily didn’t know what drew her to the mirror. She’d found it at a forgotten corner of a dusty flea market, its wood frame twisted like gnarled roots. The glass was dim, tinged with shadows that shifted whenever she moved. It looked like it held stories, maybe secrets—and as she held it, she felt a strange chill crawl over her skin.

The Parasite. Top Story - November 2024. Content Warning.
“Hey Lynette, you busy?” “Nahhh, just finished with my last patient. What’s up?” “I was thinking of dropping by your clinic. Would that be okay?” Dakota asked. “Of course! Are you alright, or do you have some juicy gossip for me?” Lynette chuckled. Dakota rolled her eyes, “Ugh, I wish! Unfortunately, I’m not feeling too great.” “Oh! What’s wro—” “I’ll explain when I get there”, Dakota hung up. ~~~~~ “Dr. Verlice is waiting in her office for you”, the receptionist, Becky, greeted Dakota with a smile as she walked in. “Okay, thanks Becky.” Dakota knocked on Lynette’s door but didn’t wait for a response before entering. “Oh my God, Dakota! You look awful!” “Hello to you too.” “Sorry, hi! But seriously, what happened to you?!” “That’s what I’m hoping to find out. I’ve been feeling so nauseous for weeks now, throwing up at least once a day.” “Could be food poisoning, but go on, what other symptoms?” “I feel bloated all the time, and there’s this constant, dull stomach pain.” “Hmmm…how’s your appetite?” “Ravenous! I’m eating like a beast, only to throw up afterwards, so hard you’d think I’m turning into a werewolf!” “That’s quite the exaggeration, but I’ll let it slide”, Lynette stifled a giggle. “I’m guessing you’re fatigued too, right?” “Yeah, that too!” “Do you remember eating anything unusual prior to all of these?” “I can barely remember what I ate for breakfast”, Dakota grinned sheepishly. “You’re useless, you know that?” Dakota gasped in mock offense, “Do you talk to all of your patients that way?” Lynette, lost in thought, barely registered what Dakota asked, “Nausea, bloating, fatigue…yeah, sounds like a classic case of tapeworm or some other foodborne parasite. We’ll start with a blood test and a stool sample.” “Oh, wait! Come to think of it, I had sushi about a month or two ago. Do you think it came from that?” “Possibly, but we’ll know more after we test your stool sample”, Lynette handed her a sample container. “And my nurse will draw some blood. It’ll take a few days for the results. In the meantime, I’ll prescribe some medication to help manage the symptoms.” “You are the best! Thank you!” ~~~~~ Dakota’s phone pinged:
