Serene Tragedy Part 2
Part Two of a Series About a Psychic Girl Who Helps the Spirit of a Murder Victim
So there I was, sitting on my bed in the dark, talking to a ghost girl like she was my best friend and we were having a sleepover. Serenity went on to tell me about who she was while she was alive. She was a barista at a local coffee shop. She told me she had lived in a small one bedroom apartment in town that she paid rent on every month, and that her only friend was a gerbil she had named Dexter.
"Alright," I said, "Can you try to remember anything about the night you died?" I asked her. "Anything at all helps. I know this must be hard but I need something to go on if I'm going to help you."
She frowned as she looked down, trying to remember. "It was cold and wet outside," she said softly. "It was dark and I could see the stars. I can't remember how I got there, though."
"Alright, well what were you doing before you woke up in the middle of nowhere?" I asked. "What can you remember before waking up?"
She thought for a moment before looking at me. "I was walking home from work. I had just put my key in the door and tried to unlock it. I don't remember anything after that."
I nodded. "Okay. Serenity, I'm going to have to do some research. If you were murdered locally, then there has to be some record of it, or at least your disappearance," I said as I stood up and walked over to my laptop. I put into a search database the words "Woman-murder-local" and hit search. A few pages of names popped up. *Geez there's been that many women murdered in town?* I thought silently. I then shook my head and added to the end of the existing words, "Serenity-Barker."
Bingo. I clicked on the link that popped up. I wish I hadn't. The descriptions were gruesome and I wish the reporters would've been a little less detailed. I then stopped reading and tilted my head to the side. "Wait a minute," I said. "I remember seeing this on the news. You died only a few weeks ago."
Serenity stood up off of my bed and walked over and glued her eyes to the screen. "Yes, it wasn't long ago," she said blankly.
I continued scrolling and taking in as many details as I could handle. I then began reading out loud, "Victim of young Serenity Barker, found in abandoned field in the middle of Serenest Woodland National park. Victim died due to multiple stab wounds, but not before being hit over the back of the head with a blunt object. Only evidence found at the scene other than the body was a single red rose found in the victim's hand covered in blood." I stopped and looked at her. "Can you think of anyone who would do this to you?" I asked her.
Serenity thought for a moment. "No I can't, and I don't know why he would leave a rose," she whispered with tears welling in her eyes. "Why would someone do this to me?"
I sighed and looked down. "I don't know, but I promise you I will do everything I can to find out," I told her firmly. "Now, does the National Park you were found in mean anything to you?"
Serenity frowned, "Well, Sorta. I used to go hiking there. It was peaceful and I enjoyed being around nature on my days off," she said to me as she remained staring at the screen.
I thought for a moment. "Well, did you meet anyone there, anyone male that stood out to you?" I asked. "Anyone who may have fancied you?"
She furrowed her brow. "Why would someone who fancied me kill me?" she asked confused.
"Well, whoever killed you left a red rose in your hand. The red rose is normally given to someone by a person who either fancies them or loves them," I said to her.
She nodded, taking all of this in. She then thought for a moment before saying, "There was one guy there that I had talked to just a few times. He liked to go and watch the birds. But I also noticed that he liked to watch me also." She paused then continued, "It never was creepy, it was more of a cute, flirty way. I didn't mind it since I never really received that sort of attention often."
I looked at her. "Did you ever get a name?"
She shook her head. "No, but he looked to be about 25-30-years-old. He had light brown hair and wore glasses."
I nodded, "Okay, so we have a description and the fact he liked to hang out near the National park," I said. "Well, I know where I'm taking a trip to tomorrow after school. Serenity, would you like to go for a hike with me?"
She nodded with a smile. "I'd love to. We need to find out who did this to me."
To be continued.
Hey, everyone! I'm so sorry it took me so long to start up this series. I've been very busy and took a break from Vocal. I'm back now and will be trying to finish up this story, and I will be releasing loads of other things also! Thanks for reading!
