The Priory
Fire rose in the dark. Flames flickered and faded in the night. As each new building caught, the fire grew in size, until it engulfed the entire structure, began to fade, caught a new building. A horrifying cycle. Hope dwindled in the townspeople’s eyes as they watched the fires rise. The Pastor had herded everyone out into the fields, far enough from the flames to be safe. The midnight wind blew the bran back and forth, and the shimmering way it danced in the moon and fire tickled the waists of its inhabitants, as if saying “Hello! We don’t often have visitors. Are you planning on staying long?” Another building caught, and with it came a fireball taller than the trees. The townspeople gave a grieving gasp. The smoke plume rose black against the night sky, visible through the torchlight of fire and the stars it obscured. With the Word of the Lord, the people’s Pastor tried to calm his flock.

Rite of Passage
Four days had passed since the ritual had begun. Each passing sunrise and sunset loosened my grip on time's passage, like sand spilling from a crack in an hourglass. This contemplation of time's grains slipping through my fingers was as disheartening as the cold, which sunk itself deeper into my skin, creeping towards the bones within. The long night stretched out before me, beckoning slyly and coolly as if a trickster waiting for the fool. The swarthiness reached out and pulled as each step taken into the inky wickedness slowly seeped further from my lone figure; it's invisible current pulling me on and on.

Fallax
I could see it. The lake was not far from where I was. With every ounce of strength I ran until my body felt as though it were floating. The flash of light caught my peripheral, dogs yelled in the distance. Shouts and screams came behind them but I continued. I reached the lake, for a moment just for moment I looked behind and I could see it. I jumped into the lake swimming as fast as I could. The water tasted so bitter, my arms burned with exhaustion. That song. How I wished I could hear it. In this moment I wanted nothing more than to sink. To sink and to be forgotten. I emerged on the other side withered and broken. I again looked back to see it. I paused for a moment. Joy or was it fear? I would like to think it was calm that I felt for that brief moment. The lights, the shouts were fast approaching. I stole my resolve and continued into the forest.

Sirloc
As she came into focus she stepped out of the trees and into full light of the moon. My eyes kept blinking and for some reason I found myself unable to move. She looks at me and then gives a slow downward nod. As her head comes up she makes eye contact again with me. "Who are you? And why are you here?" Trying to take another swallow to get my mouth wet and my tongue gets stuck to the roof of my mouth. But after fake chewing I can finally say "My name is Mathew but I usually go by the nick name Mat." "Now may I ask your name?" She blinks slowly and then I can hear her voice it's eerily comforting to me. "My name is Sirloc. But again why are you here?" Now putting my jacket on revealing my pistol in my belt line right by my belly button. She blinks once kind of faster this time than the last. "Well ma'am I am on a road trip to where ever the road may lead at the moment." She takes two steps closer to me and then lowers her veil or hood. "Listen to me you are not in a safe area, the danger has passed for the moment but it will return and I can see your not ready for it when it returns." Catching my attention with that statement. Looking in her eyes and dropping my arms to my sides. "So danger would be the people in the cars?" She takes another step toward me now only about ten feet away from me. "No, those are just people that can be animalistic in nature if you can understand that. But right now you really need to be worrying about the real, ancient, and pure evil." This really got my attention now. "So your saying there is something more dangerous than simply people as you put it." She nods at me and then asks, "So you do understand that their are things in this world that really can't make sense when told from ear to ear. If it's not a movie people seem not to believe it's even real."

Night and the owl
‘What could it bring?’ In the cold breeze of late hours, a shadowy figure thought to herself. The sun was just swallowed by the night sky, but the bloodstains of its disappearance were still painted across the indigo sky. One by one the echos of the worlds far away were lighting up in the darkening sky. A cold, thick mist was surrounding the lonely bonfire lit in the open jaws of the forest meadow. Frightening trees and their shadows were creeping closer and closer to the warmth of the fire, as the coldness of the rising moon shone on them.

Reed Alexander's Horror Review of 'The Shed' (2020)
So far, I've been pretty disappointed with the majority of Shudder Originals, save Mayhem (2020), which was a fucking hoot. Basically, Shudder is 1-3 here and Mayhem doesn't quite make up for the other three films. However, if you want the 'too long; didn't read' version of this review, it would be "Watch Mayhem instead."

Winchester: A Mother’s Love
Soon after my parents went back home to Arizona, It was just my husband, two children, and myself. The activity continued. As usual, being alert towards the situation, heard and saw everything. My children were always playing and could never stay in one place too long being full of energy and smiles. Always laughing and giggling. On occasion I would hear giggling when they were quiet. A mother knows the sound of her child’s voice even their cries and giggles. This was not their giggles. I, of course, knew exactly who it was. There were lots of little distant giggles from Tommy and playful little footsteps during the day. I stayed home with my children while my husband was at work, so it was as it always was since we moved in in the daylight. Just my two children, Tommy and myself. The evenings into the nights were becoming different. On regular nights, ever so often, I would feel a little on getting into my bed. My oldest would crawl into bed with me when he woke up from a bad dream so come and safely sleep with me. On the night before my husband came home, I was awoken from a little someone getting into bed with me. I turned over, expecting to see my son’s face, but it was the same boy in the little 40’s news boy outfit and cap with the sleek brown hair, blue eyes and little round cheeks. It was Tommy. I sat up and looked up. He was gone. Now during the evenings, my husband would come home, we were together as a family. In the night after putting the children to sleep, my husband and I would spend time together then go to sleep. There was now a man in the house and in the bed making things different.

The Return
The farm appeared overgrown—the place once a gold mine and riches for any man brave enough to climb the cliffs. John stood where his father once stood, a proud man who was hung for his gold. John stared at the wagon tracks that remained, deep ruts encrusted in weeds.
