The Book
“Thomas Stilun. Age 28. Spokane, Washington.” I mumble to myself, reading from the aged, leather journal. It looks like it’s ancient, honestly. The cracking of its black covers, the torn binding, even the parchment like pages, discolored from time. But something about it feels off. Peculiar, I suppose.

The sound of the shop bell shook Harold out of his thoughts. The first customer of the day walked in and he was delighted to see Lizzie, one of his regulars. He pushed painful memories of his wife’s recent passing to the side as he greeted Lizzie, an attractive woman in her twenties with wavy hair and glasses.

Hush, Weep, and Whisper
I’ve been locked in this drawer for decades. Damp. Distressed. Disregarded. It’s hard to say where the keys to the roll-top desk are, but W.W., whose initials remain emblazoned on the inside of my black cover, likely stuffed them in his pocket when he hung himself from the weeping willow in the grassy front yard. The tree remains visible from the rickety chair where he mocked my lined pages and wrote diagonally with fine-tipped pens when he awoke each morning.

The Road to Riches
A pair of darkened, tired eyes fell upon the extravagant palace, following a path up the walls which touched the very stars it had been built under. The stone seemed to stretch on forever, and perhaps it really did. No one knew much about this place, after all.
