Stalkers
The town is deserted except for a murder of crows gathered on the roof edge of the building across the street. It was a Chase Bank three months ago, before the first attack. Now it’s an empty shell with broken windows like hollow sockets. The crows caw and turn their heads to watch me, waiting for scraps of meat. If I’m not back to the motel by sundown, I will be their meat in the morning. I think they know and that’s why they watch me.

Black Book of Death
Yasmine Mitchell was not superstitious. She didn’t believe in much besides her will to live and her strength to overcome everything she had been through. See, there’s this story about Yasmine. I will take it from the top so you can better understand her and where her curiosity begins and her tactful niche for detecting bad vibes ends with The Little Black Book.

Ab Aeterno
Keefe huddled in the corner of his bathroom, allowing the sink’s faucet to pour its hot liquid into the overflowing basin. The water cascaded onto the tiled floor below. There, the water mixed with blood, swirling around like the paint his mother would let him use when he was a child.

When Chaos Loses Patience
It seems like every doctor’s office is the same room, despite the minute differences in decor. They all contain the same, solemn atmosphere, with some people waiting too long for their appointments while others fidget nervously in the hopes of positive news. Children bored, making noise, being shushed by parents while the adults actively press the meager selection of toys upon them for a temporary reprieve. There are plenty of things in a waiting room that most people can agree they’ve been around more than once, no matter where they live. Most interactions are minimal, but polite, at best.

Ink on a Page
My journey, like most people’s, starts off with little to note. I grew up in a big city, had annoying parents, got bullied in school; the whole nine yards. Right out of college I had started my career out on my own with a surprise inheritance of $20,000 from a long lost relative. I thought I was rich and going to make it big. Boy was I wrong. Within a year I had blown most of my inheritance. Now I’m an adult, living the same day over and over again working for a company that pays me too little to do too much. was going nowhere fast, struggling to find a way to make ends meet. In a few months, I would lose my apartment if I couldn’t find a way to make more money.

The Howlers
She lay in the bed, silently thinking of Van Gogh. He was the only one who could bring her any sense of peace anymore. She didn’t know where the hell she was this time. Again. It was cold, bitterly cold, but at least this place had a private bed, blanket, and much to her delight, Kleenex. She always hated having to blow her nose as a child, but having suffered for so many weeks barely being able to breathe, she warmly welcomed the pillowy white tissue that reminded her of a newborn baby’s scent. Odd, but familiar.

Blitzed
Growing up I heard watered-down tribal tales that said we weren’t meant to settle here. The wind, that was why. It picks up speed as it surfs down the east side of the Rockies and gets another kick as it whips through the coulees. The wind is a mighty force. It will carry you away if you aren’t ready for it.

The Little African American Book
“Walk in the light! Beautiful light! Come where the dew drops of mercy shine bright! Shine all around us by day and by night!” The song echoed in his medium brown colored head like a bell tolling for the dead. He looked at the computer screen with the figure $20,000 emblazoned on it. He sat at his kitchen table.

The Missing Ones
They had begun to disappear one by one. No one knew exactly when the event had started, only that the children in the community started to vanish one summer evening. It started with the Thorton's eight-year old daughter, Theresa, only just down the street. I was awoken by the flash of blue and red lights outside my bedroom window. The next day the local news reported that her estranged father had kidnapped her. Oddly enough, however, was that no one had seen the man eight years after he had been stationed in Kuwait. Ten-year old Liam was next, not even a day later. They said he had been playing down at the park with a group of friends from school and then he was gone. No one had witnessed any other people acting strange that day. Two days later a little straw doll was found close to where they had been playing. They found a similar doll near Theresa's home, right under her playroom window.
