A firm knock at my hotel door jolted me out of my video game trance. It really didn’t help that the video game I was playing was of the horror variety. I stood up, my legs and back cracked and popped as I moved them for the first time in hours. My eyes burned as I rubbed them. The moisture having all but depleted from going so long without blinking. I wandered to the door and looked through the peep hole.

The Man Before Time
I descended the stairs to see my father in the kitchen boiling six different pots of various colored liquids. There had been an incessant knocking at the door, but I guess he didn’t notice. Mr. Brocker’s aging face appeared in the tiny window that some doors are fitted with, though their purpose escapes me. My feet are careful not to betray me as they take on each stair with caution but I’m in no hurry; I don’t much care for Mr. Brocker.

A Fool's Game
Mark let off the gas as the victorian era mansion emerged through the parted trees, his nerves were full of static, and he found it hard to focus. He never wanted to return to this place, and honestly he wanted to turn around and go home. Greed, however, was slowly overwhelming his sense of discomfort. Succumbing to the sunken cost of the drive, and the promise of fortune, he drove on. The twenty grand in the bank was nothing more than bait, and despite the oppressive feeling that nothing good would come from this, Mark was ready to swallow the hook.
