John had always been a curious person. He loved exploring new places and learning new things. One day, he heard a story about a haunted wood house on the outskirts of town. He decided to investigate.

John drove to the location of the wood house. It was a small, dilapidated house nestled in the middle of a dense forest. John parked his car and walked up to the house.

The front door was slightly ajar. John pushed the door open and stepped inside. The house was dark and dusty. John could hear the wind whistling through the cracks in the walls.

John explored the house. He found a living room, a kitchen, and two bedrooms. There was no furniture in the house. The only thing in the house was a single chair in the living room.

John sat down in the chair. He felt a chill run down his spine. He looked around the room, but he couldn't see anything.

"Is anyone there?" John asked.

There was no answer.

John stood up and walked to the front door. He opened the door and stepped outside. He looked back at the house and saw that the front door was slowly closing.

John ran back to his car and drove away. He never went back to the wood house again.

**Years later**

John was now an old man. He was living in a small house in the suburbs. He had retired from his job and was spending his days gardening and reading books.

One day, John was sitting in his garden when he saw a man standing at the edge of his property. The man was tall and thin, with long, white hair. He was wearing a long, black coat.

John stood up and walked over to the man.

"Can I help you?" John asked.

The man didn't answer. He just stared at John with his cold, dead eyes.

John felt a chill run down his spine. He turned to run, but the man was gone.

John went inside his house and locked the door. He sat down in a chair and tried to calm himself down.

But John couldn't calm down. He kept thinking about the man. He kept seeing the man's cold, dead eyes.

John went to bed that night, but he couldn't sleep. He kept thinking about the man. He kept seeing the man's cold, dead eyes.

In the middle of the night, John woke up to a noise. He sat up in bed and listened. The noise was coming from downstairs.

John got out of bed and went to the door. He listened to the noise for a moment. It was the sound of footsteps walking around downstairs.

John slowly opened the door and crept downstairs. He reached the bottom of the stairs and saw the man standing in the living room.

The man was staring at John with his cold, dead eyes.

"John," the man said. "I've been waiting for you."

John turned and ran back upstairs. He ran into his bedroom and slammed the door shut. He locked the door and leaned against it, breathing heavily.

John heard the man walking upstairs. He heard the man banging on his bedroom door.

"John," the man said. "You can't hide from me."

John backed away from the door. He looked around his bedroom for a way to escape.

John saw a window on the other side of the room. He ran to the window and opened it. He climbed out the window and onto the roof.

John ran across the roof and jumped to the ground. He ran into the forest and didn't stop running until he reached the town.

John ran to the police station and told the police officers what had happened. The police officers didn't believe John. They thought he was crazy.

John went home, but he couldn't stay there. He knew that the man would be back.

John packed his belongings and left town. He never went back.

John never saw the man again, but he never forgot him. He knew that the man was still out there, somewhere, waiting for him.
