On Halloween night, the protagonist and his friends attend a Halloween party with their parents. They follow Janet upstairs to Bobbie's room, where they find Alice, who is still awake and dressed in at least one hundred dolls. Alice's mother gestures for them to leave, and the protagonist thanks Janet for her recommendation.

Alice's father shouts from the bottom of the stairs, and they are going to see Alice around 1am. The protagonist sits on the couch in the living room, feeling uneasy as the house suddenly silences. They check their Twitter feed and notice a knock at the door, which startsle them. They get up and check the spy hole, expecting one of the parents had forgotten something. Instead, a small boy stands there.

The protagonist places their phone on the table in the entryway and picks up a bowl of sweets and unlocks the door. They ask Alice if she wants some candy, and he shook his head violently. Alice's parents are in silence, and the protagonist asks if he needs me to call someone. He turns to pick up his phone and asks if Alice knows his parents' number.

Alice returns to the couch, worried about an intruder might be in the house. Before they can get back to their phone, they hear footsteps on the stairs and Alice emerges. She is scared and has a growing dark patch in her pajamas. The protagonist comforts Alice and takes her upstairs to clean her up.

Alice points to the dresser, where they find clean clothes and towels. They ask Alice why the dolls were facing the walls, and Alice shook her head. The protagonist turns the dolls by their heads, but Alice is slightly annoyed. The protagonist relents and picks them up by their dresses, clinging to them as if they were inanimate objects.

Alice's parents are excited about the party and Alice's parents are excited about the dolls. The protagonist is excited to see Alice and her parents, but they are concerned about Alice's safety and the potential dangers of leaving Alice alone with her sister.

In the end, the protagonist and Alice's parents are left to wonder if they have left Alice alone at the party. They decide to leave Alice alone and watch the dolls grow and develop a bond with Alice.

Alice asks for a doll, which she gives to her. She then leaves, leaving the room with the dolls and Bobbie, who is asleep in her room. Helen, Alice's grandmother, arrives at the house and finds her brother, Harold, under her bed. The dolls are facing Alice, and she finds Jilly, who she gives to Alice.

As Helen investigates, she finds Bobbie, who is also under her bed. Alice is scared of him and cries, but Helen doesn't know why. She asks why she is scared of him, and Alice tells her brother, Harold, that she saw him. Harold blasted her for not coming out of his room.

Alice's parents rush into her room, and Helen runs into her room, finding the dolls gone and Alice missing. She is shocked by the situation and wonders what happened to Alice. Harold accuses her of stealing the dolls and the pajamas on the floor. Helen stops, and Harold pushes past her, revealing that Alice is still there. Eunice, holding Alice, asks what she is doing.

The story highlights the dangers of letting children play with dolls and the consequences of not doing so. The protagonist, Helen, must navigate the situation and find a way to protect her daughter from harm.
