It's a quiet lazy day, too wet to go outside to play and not much to do indoors without making a mess. Mother did not feel up to continuing with her renovation plans for the house and really only wanted a quiet day for her and the kids. Everyone agreed to an afternoon of movies and popcorn. Katy was not feeling a movie nor popcorn, so she left her family to their choices and retreated to the upstairs living space.

The windows were left open to allow the cool air in. They overlooked the side yard that Katy and her siblings loved to run and play in but unfortunately not today due to the weather. You could hear the pitter pat of raindrops that only reminded Katy of her disappointment. She decided to occupy her mind with another activity but what. As she looked out the windows, Katy noticed the wind blowing her long dark brown hair into her face. Annoyed by not being able to see, she decided to put it up in a braid.

She retrieved her hairbrush and hair tie and then proceeded to place a chair by one of the opened windows in the common space. As in olden days, Katy brushed her hair by separating it in sections followed by counting down the number of brush strokes as it went through her hair. You could hear the sounds of thunder in the distance and the rain as it picked up into more of a severe storm than a drizzle. The wind began to blow even harder undoing anything she had just down.

The thunder came crashing down even louder and the rain started to blow in along with the wind. Katy started to close the windows one by one to prevent the rain from coming in, when the sky blacken. The only light you could see was now coming from another room. A crack of thunder could be heard as if it was right on top of the house. It was followed a few seconds later by a lighting bolt that appeared through the curtains to a spot in the middle of the room.

Katy peered in awe and did not speak a word as the lighting formed into a orb before her. It hovered just inches above the floor for what seemed like a matter of seconds. Then without warning it disappeared into the floor as quickly as it appeared. It gave off a crackling sound and left an obvious burn on the floor. The storm subsided at the very moment it enter and the sky regain its light. She jumped out of the chair and ran to feel the spot that it left behind.

One of her younger siblings came running up the stairs to see what happened and if she was alright. Katy confused by their reaction and unsure if they knew of what she just experienced. They explained that just before the storm calmed the family was watching their movie. The lights went out and a light fixture just below her feet, which has not worked from the time that they moved in, lit. Their terrified mother asked that they go check on her.

After explaining it again to her mother of what she had seen, did not feel that anyone took her serious. If it were not for the burn on the floor and what they later discovered burns on the curtains; it would be very hard to believe indeed.
