CURSED OBJECTS THAT SCIENTISTS FEAR

Scientists are always looking for solutions, yet not everything in the world can be explained. Many people think dolls are cute, but I would say that there is nothing creepier. Let me introduce you to Little Jimmy as an example. LeRoy Bland, a 12-year-old boy from Kentucky, won this doll at a funfair in 1910. With its cracked porcelain face and frightening blood red smile, the doll is disturbing enough. But the narrative only grew worse when the First World War broke out in 1914. To honour all the brave young men serving in the war, LeRoy's mother sewed Jimmy its own soldier outfit. She had no idea that World War I would turn out to be one of the worst conflicts in history with a death toll estimated to be between 15 and 22 million. Yeah, Jimmy here has turned into a very gloomy talisman, but he simply looks frightening. Whereas I have a true story of a legitimately cursed doll, it's up to you to judge whether this creepy doll earns the title of most cursed toy. Are you prepared?

I have a three-foot-tall doll in a sailor suit. Looks innocent enough, doesn't it? Wait until you hear the whole twisted story. It dates back more than 117 years and is now on exhibit at the Fort East Martello Museum in Key West, Florida. But, before coming to the museum in 1994, he was owned by Gene Otto. As a child, he was given a handcrafted doll. Gene named the doll Robert and grew close to it rapidly, until one night Gene awoke to discover Robert sitting on the edge of his bed. His mother was awakened moments later by the sound of Gene's screaming and furniture being flung around the room. When she finally pushed open the door, the bedroom was a shambles, and Gene was sobbing. When she questioned what happened, Gene pointed to the doll at the foot of the bed and replied, "Robert did it."

This became Gene's slogan anytime something in their house broke or went missing. Gene's parents felt that sounded like a typical child's excuse for lying their way out of trouble. They quickly noticed other unexplained occurrences, alleging that they frequently heard their son upstairs chatting to the doll before hearing a different voice respond. Visitors reported hearing a crazed chuckling, and Robert was seen racing up the stairs. Despite these strange reports, Robert continued to live with Gene, and after Gene outgrew his doll phase, Robert was packed away in an attic trunk, but children on the street claimed they saw Robert peering out the attic window. It seems to be observing all the while. They swore he'd vanish and reappear without explanation. As a result, children began to shun the residence entirely.

Gene died in 1974, and when the new owners moved home, their young daughter was overjoyed to discover Robert in the attic. But things quickly went south. They discounted their daughter's accusations that the doll was attempting to harm her as the result of an overactive imagination. However, they quickly noticed Robert moving around the house even when no one was there. Even visitors saw his blank look changing when anyone disparaged his previous owner, Gene.

After one too many strange occurrences, Robert was donated to the museum, where he still resides today. Locals now believe that the doll was given to Gene by the Otto family's maid, who cursed it with dark magic in retaliation for being mistreated by the family. However, no documents have been discovered to support this, and scientists are unable to accurately test or prove the allegations of this mischievous doll because they are all based on eyewitness testimony.

Many people swear that taking selfies with Robert without his permission will spoil their images. Despite his alleged wickedness, Robert has become somewhat of a celebrity. He has over a thousand Facebook friends and receives fan mail from all around the world. Oof. It's a little uncomfortable to realise I have less pals than a haunted doll. While Robert's cursed narrative may make you nervous, there are dolls out there with even scarier backstories.
