Children horror movie

The highly anticipated release of the new "Children of the Corn" movie is fast approaching, almost 40 years after the original film was released. Both movies are based on Stephen King's short story and are technically polished, but the latest iteration is conceptually thin and superficially upsetting. Despite the movie's flaws, it still manages to deliver enough formulaic violence to satisfy genre movie fans.

One notable difference between the original and the new movie is the reported budget of the first film. Made on a budget of $800,000, the first "Children of the Corn" somehow managed to avoid looking cheap, while the latest installment suffers from poor editing and dicey child performances. However, the movie's familiarity and nostalgia factor may still be enough to draw in fans.

The plot revolves around the poor and desperate farmers of Rylstone, Nebraska, who are considering taking a payoff to bury their failing corn crops. Boleyn, a headstrong teen, urges her resigned father, Robert, to think twice before selling the farm. Meanwhile, the orphans of Rylstone Children's Home, led by the aggrieved and possibly soul-dead youngster Eden, resent being left out of the conversation. When they are laughed at by the adults, they resort to murder in the name of their god-like figure, He Who Walks.

Despite the thin dialogue and underutilized cast, the movie's highlight reel-ready kill scenes are effective in conveying a sense of dread. The lack of vision from the director inadvertently adds to the movie's cut-rate air of dread. While not entirely convincing as a story about small-town kids fighting for their homes, the latest "Children of the Corn" works as a mean-spirited genre exercise that horror fans will enjoy.

The durability of the material is evident in the recommendations received for noteworthy sequels to the original 1984 "Children of the Corn." The latest iteration may not have aged much, but it still manages to push the same buttons and deliver the same level of unsettling horror that fans have come to expect from the franchise.

Overall, the new "Children of the Corn" movie may not be essential viewing, but it still manages to deliver on its promise of formulaic violence and may appeal to diehard fans of the franchise

In a small town surrounded by cornfields, a malevolent spirit possesses twelve-year-old Eden, driving her to incite a rebellion against the adults. The other children in town soon follow her lead as they grow increasingly frustrated with having to pay for the mistakes of their parents. Eden and her cohort embark on a gruesome rampage, killing anyone who opposes their plans for a new world order.

As chaos ensues and the adults are either dead or imprisoned, the town's only hope of survival rests with a high schooler who refuses to join the children's uprising. With no other options left, she must face off against the bloodthirsty horde and attempt to save the remaining townspeople from certain doom.

This horror film, rated R for its graphic violence and bloody imagery, is a gripping tale of innocence lost and the terrifying consequences that can result from a thirst for power. Directed by Kurt Wimmer and produced by John Baldecchi, Doug Barry, and Lucas Foster, this film promises to be a chilling exploration of the darker side of humanity.
