Thea V - following the dragon

The dragon of science, myth and imagination unites male and female.

Once upon a time, in the land of the eternal evermore, there was no shame in knowing the sacred feminine was born of the dragon.

The dragon extends through nature, from the cosmic to the physical, psychological and quantum levels. The dragon curve is one form of self-similar, repeating fractals, formed when a flat surface is repeatedly folded at the normal.

The Babylonian Dragon mother goddess of the heavens, Tiamat, is known as the constellation Draco. The mother of all dragons once held the pole star, Alpha Draconis, also known as Thuban, in its tail. The Naga of Eastern religions guide, protect, transform, and enlighten mankind. In the Draconic cycle, the masculine north node of the moon Rahu, is the head of the constellation Draco the Dragon, and the feminine south node, Ketu, is the tail. The Mesoamerican feathered serpent, Quetzalcoatl, once considered the female god of wind and rain, is in charge of fertility, protection and nurturing in agriculture and science. Longmu, the Chinese Mother of Dragons, and her five offspring are water guardians who help mankind find harmony with nature.

As man sought to control Nature, dragons were often slayed in myth. Zeus, El Khadir, the Arabic Green man of myth, St George and others slayed the dragon. However, at Chartres, before the black virgin turned white, a dragon was shown to be happily carrying Jesus above its back.

Dragons are versatile. They demonstrate the strength and resilience to learn skills and maintain an independent brave spirit. They use their natural innate qualities to protect treasures. Like many reptiles, dragons reproduce through parthenogenesis, laying eggs without mating. Some species can change gender to suit conditions.

The phylogenetic lineage of mankind carries residual traits of a Therapsid Sauropod dinosaur ancestor. Recent scientific advances have shown that the sacred feminine is common to all human life. The twisted serpentine X chromosome and the energy-releasing mitochondria, come from the female. Multiple facets of the sacred feminine combine into a unified whole individual, providing the instinctual, primitive id of the subconscious, that stands with the ego, and superego.

Tiresias, the blind prophet who turned into a female, understood Herself and Himself. I have learned about the dragon and the sacred virgin mothers, through what I observed in five women who influenced my life. I learned that Virgin originally meant 'strong independent female.' In my minds inner eye, Thea V (Θεία V), a composite dragon goddess and protective mother to all males and females, reveals herself in an acrostic message.

T is a formidable teacher, a Tyrannosaurus rex if ever there was. Her shoulders are rounded, her neck recessed, her lips curled, and teeth barred. She senses heat and like an alligator gar and can leap from the waves and impale the unsuspecting in the jugular. She is, rough and ready. She breathes fire and spits venom. She has the memory of a fluffy pappas on the head of dandelion. After an event blossoms, what remains acts as wisher, that sometimes lets a seed take root.

H is a single woman and childless mother. She stems from a proud, strong Amazon. She selflessly worked every day as she went through chemo. She loves to gamble with intelligence. She is independent and financially secure. Her platinum hair, sports car and living room walled with mirrors shows she loves herself. She loves and guides her spiritual offspring, lending an ear and offering sage advice and support.

E is a staid turtle eyed teacher. She methodically plodded along, cautiously controlling threatening situations. She created a bursary for students who embodied aspects of being an excellent global citizen thus protecting the legacy she valued.

A survived repeated tragedy. After losing her partner, she rallied, and nurtured her children and those of friends, her family, and strangers . A could work her charm and make home the place where the heart is. Love was never a limited commodity, nor was it measured in a linear fashion.

V is the last but not least member of the dragon mother composite. She immigrated to the New World carrying the lighted torch of the Old World. She lived according to the meagre means available to her family. She had enough and with pride, she cared for family and friends as possessions. She generously shared her simple, clean, and humble ordered reality, and the fruits of her labours. She used the skills of survival and taught others how to predict the future.

The qualities of these five women appear as Thea V. With major and minor tunings she becomes part of chorus that echoes the chime of the one voice of the sacred feminine. It rings pure and true, on this International Women's Day in the year of the Dragon.
