The sinking of the Titanic has left a lasting impact on humanity. Even after a century, people still know about the supposedly unsinkable ship, but few know the true events that occurred onboard. Today, we explore ten fascinating facts about the Titanic.

1. The Titanic attracted many wealthy passengers due to its notoriety as an unsinkable ship. John Jacob Astor IV, an American businessman, was among them. He was not only the richest man on board but also believed to be the wealthiest person alive at the time. Adjusted for inflation, his wealth would amount to 2.3 billion dollars today.

2. Astor was a decorated military veteran and an author of a popular science fiction novel called "A Journey in Other Worlds." He also earned millions through real estate, including the construction of the luxurious Astoria Hotel, which later merged with the Waldorf Hotel to become the Waldorf Astoria Hotel.

His movie "Titanic," released in 1997, became the highest-grossing film of all time at that point, earning over 1.8 billion dollars worldwide. Remarkably, the film's production cost of 200 million dollars exceeded the cost of building the original Titanic, even when adjusted for inflation.

5. The wreckage of the Titanic remained undiscovered for 73 years. It took a joint American-French expedition in 1985, led by oceanographer Dr. Robert Ballard, to locate the sunken ship using an unmanned submersible named Argo. This accidental discovery sparked new interest in ocean exploration.

6. Sadly, over 1,500 people lost their lives in the Titanic disaster, while only 705 survived. Statistics show that the majority of female first-class passengers were rescued, with a survival rate of 97%. However, male second-class passengers had the lowest survival rate, with only 14 out of 168 surviving.

7. The Titanic carried several family pets, but only two survived the sinking. One passenger, Ann Elizabeth Isham, reportedly perished because she refused to leave her Great Dane behind. Witnesses claimed to have seen her holding onto the dog in the

In her final years, her housing expenses were covered by Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, and James Cameron, the stars and director of the movie "Titanic."

9. The Titanic had impressive dimensions, including a length of 883 feet, a daily coal consumption of 825 tons, and over 10,000 light bulbs. While it had a maximum capacity of 3,500 passengers, only around 2,300 were on board during the sinking.

10. Frederick Fleet, one of the lookouts aboard the Titanic, first spotted the the iceberg that led to the disaster. He and his colleague, Reginald Lee, were stationed in the crow's nest. Fleet later expressed regret for not having binoculars, believing they could have prevented the collision. Tragically, he took his own life in 1965.
