God used this opportunity to teach Jonah a valuable lesson about compassion and mercy. He said, "You had pity on the plant for which you did not labor, nor did you make it grow, which came into being in a night and perished in a night. And should I not have pity on Nineveh, that great city, in which there are more than a hundred and twenty thousand persons who do not know their right hand from their left, and also much cattle?"

Jonah realized the error of his ways and the narrowness of his perspective. He learned that God's love and mercy extended to all people, even those he considered unworthy. With a humbled heart, Jonah accepted God's teachings and the importance of compassion for all.
