California.

California is a large, diverse western U.S. state known for its varied geography, including Pacific coastline, redwood forests, Sierra Nevada mountains, Central Valley farmland, and Mojave Desert, with major cities like Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, and the state capital, Sacramento. It has the largest economy in the U.S., a population of nearly 40 million, and is a global hub for technology, entertainment, and agriculture.

Geography and climate

Coastline: Features cliffs, beaches, and redwood forests along the Pacific.

U.S. Route 101 is a major 1,600-mile coastal highway running along the Pacific coast of Washington, Oregon, and California, connecting iconic sites from the Olympic Peninsula to Los Angeles and San Diego. It often serves as the scenic "Pacific Coast Highway" (PCH) or "Oregon Coast Highway," offering dramatic ocean views, redwood forests, and access to beach towns.

Central Valley: A major agricultural region in the center of the state which is the nations bread basket.

Deserts: The Mojave Desert is in the southeast.

Climate: Varies widely, from cool and foggy coastlines to hot inland valleys and deserts, to alpine snowy peaks of Lake Tahoe.

Economy

GDP: The world's fifth-largest economy if it were a country, contributing about 15% to the U.S. GDP.

Key sectors: Technology (Silicon Valley), think Google, Microsoft and

Apple, entertainment (Hollywood), and agriculture.

Population and culture

Population: Nearly 40 million, with one in four residents born overseas, of which I am one.

Diversity: A melting pot of cultures, with a significant immigrant population. The state is very welcoming, an example is the voting brochures - translated in over 60 languages. There are so many immigrants, my wife is almost the only native born Californian I know.

National Parks: Home to the most national parks in the U.S., including the iconic Yosemite and Joshua Tree.

Attractions: Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, Disneyland, billed as the happiest place on earth, and numerous state parks and beaches like Venice Beach and Santa Cruz.

I live in California, in the northern part of the state. More Wild, less populated. The best part of the best state in the Union. I love California! Warts and all. It is totally iconic. It has an iconic hippie culture, of which my beautiful wife is one.

California hippies defined the 1960s counterculture, centered in San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury, which served as the epicenter for the 1967 "Summer of Love".

‘It also spawned the iconic music of the 1960s, with bands like the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin, the Doors, Santana, and so many more. Jme grew up with them, played with some, sang with others, danced.Today, this legacy lives on in Northern California, emphasizing peace, artistic expression, and back-to-the-land lifestyles.
