Be My Partner

Will you?

By Pishu Cat Published 2 years ago • 5 min read

Fiona was searching through her fiance's study, hoping to find a particular book. As she turned towards his desk, a letter caught her eye. Curiosity piqued. She picked it up and unfolded it. “My dearest Sophiana, As I sit here, pen in hand, the weight of my heart feels heavier than ever. I must confess something that has been weighing on my soul for far too long. I have been betrothed to another woman. I know, you must be shocked, hurt, and perhaps even angry. I understand if you can never forgive me. But please, hear me out. My mother, bless her soul, has always longed for me to settle down and find a good wife. She has spent countless hours searching for the perfect match, and she had her heart set on Fiona. She is a kind, gentle woman. And she comes from a respectable family. My mother's happiness has always been my priority, and I could not bear to disappoint her. However, my heart belongs to you, and only you. Our love is a secret we have cherished for so long, a flame that burns bright in the depths of my soul. I have never loved another woman the way I love you. I know that marrying Fiona is a betrayal of our love, and I am truly sorry for the pain it has caused you. But please understand that I did not marry her. I'm betrothed to her out of respect for my mother, and a sense of duty. I have never shared a single word of affection with Fiona. My heart remains yours, and only yours. I have tried to distance myself from her, to avoid any intimacy that might betray my feelings for you. I promise to you that I will find a way to break this marriage. I know that this letter may seem like a confession of guilt, and in a way, it is. But I also hope that it is a testament to the depth of my love for you. My love for you is unwavering, and it will never change. I know that I may never deserve your forgiveness, but I hope that you can find it in your heart to understand. With a heart, full of regret and longing. Your's only Steve” As Fiona finished the letter, she felt her heart like it was going to burn out of anger. She crumbled the letter, and tossed it away. She mumbled, So, The man I'm going to marry is whispering love to my cousin. And here I'm waiting for him thinking he loves me. You thought that, I will never be able to find out about this. And even if I knew, the thing I can do is sob.You only saw the kind and gentle side of me. But now I will show you who I am and what I can do! "He loves Sophiana," she muttered, "and I'm just a duty." She stormed out of his house, walking fast down the street. She came to a lake and walked to its edge. The water was calm. She felt a mix of hurt and rage. “Wasn't he the one, who proposed this marriage and said he loves her.” Fiona sat by the lake. The soft breeze cooled her anger. She took deep breaths, trying to think clearly. After a while, she felt calmer. Then, she noticed a group of children. They were running and laughing, chasing a small rabbit. The rabbit darted and weaved, and the kids squealed with excitement. Watching them, Fiona felt a small smile touch her lips. The simple joy of the children chasing the rabbit made her forget her anger for a moment. Fiona saw a handsome man running with the childrens, also trying to catch the rabbit. She watched them, curious. Then, she took off her high heels and walked over. "Can I help you catch the rabbit?" she asked. The kids were thrilled and said yes. The man looked surprised, but he nodded. After a bit of a chase, the man finally caught the rabbit. The children cheered loudly, clapping and jumping with joy. Fiona smiled and joined in their happy celebration. "What's your name, sis?" a little girl asked Fiona. "My name is Fiona," she replied, smiling. "And what's your name?" "I'm Sia!" the girl said brightly. Then she pointed to the other children. "This is Tom, this is Lily, and this is Ben!" She happily introduced all her friends to Fiona. Sia turned to the man. "And this," she said, pointing to Fiona, "is Sister Fiona!" Then, she turned to Fiona and pointed to the man. "And this is Brother Zen!” Zen smiled, and Fiona smiled back. "Would you like to join our picnic?" Zen asked Fiona. "Yes, I'd love to," Fiona replied. She noticed some older people sitting nearby. Zen then said, "It's lunch time! Okay, I'll make the best sandwiches!” "Yay!" the kids shouted, clapping their hands and jumping up and down. They were excited for Zen's sandwiches. Fiona helped the children line up and wash their hands with water from a large jug. The older woman smiled at her. "We're so glad you're here, dear," one said. "It's lovely to have extra hands." Fiona smiled back. "They're such sweet children," she said. "Where are they from?" "They're from the city orphanage," another woman explained. "It's summer break, and they don't have families to visit. Mr. Zen brings them here every year. It's their favorite day." "That's so kind of him," Fiona said, looking over at Zen, who was busy spreading something on bread. "They seem very happy." "They are," an older man chimed in. "They look forward to this all year. Mr. Zen is a good man.” Fiona watched Zen, thinking how kind he was. "What a fine man," she thought, "unlike Steve." The thought of her fiancé, the lying Steve, made her angry again. "If only Steve was half as good as Zen," she mumbled to herself. Then, an idea popped into her head. "What if," she thought, "what if I told my father I couldn't marry Steve? What if I told him I was in love with someone else? That I refuse to marry for a business deal?" She wondered how her father would react. Fiona's mind raced. "I could ask Mr. Zen to help," she thought. "He's kind. He wouldn't refuse. " She imagined telling her father she was in love with Zen, breaking off her engagement to Steve. "I'd betroth myself to Zen," she planned, "just to buy some time. Time to finish my studies, and time to figure things out." She thought it was a perfect plan. Zen finished making the sandwiches, and everyone ate happily. The sandwiches were delicious. After lunch, the children ran off to play again. Zen sat a little apart from them, watching them with a gentle smile. Fiona walked over to him. "What are you doing here all alone?" Zen asked, his voice kind. Fiona took a deep breath. "I need to talk to you," she said, and proceeded to tell him everything. She told him about Steve, the business deal, and the letter she found. Zen listened intently, his expression changing from surprise to concern. When she finished, he was shocked. "How can a man betray someone so beautiful and kind as you?" he asked, his voice filled with disbelief. Fiona then told Zen about her plan: to pretend they were in love, to break off her engagement, and to buy herself time. She looked at him, her eyes pleading. "Zen," she asked, her voice trembling slightly, "will you be my partner in this lie?” If you liked this story then give a heart. Want to know what Zen's response will be then subscribe to me.
