Workin' Moms Season 4 Episode 1 Review

So, Workin’ Moms is back.

I feel pretty lucky I timed this right. I found the show a few weeks ago and binged it to find out that the new season was coming out.

So now, after three seasons of the show season four kicks off last night.

Spoilers for Season 4 Episode 1.

So, last season left off on a pretty big cliffhanger.

Would Kate stay with Nathan? Or keep seeing her new flame, Mike?

I thought for sure the show would drag this out a little bit, but after a short tease, we have our decision.

They show Kate getting out of an Uber and for a second I thought she was choosing Mike but she picks Nathan and the kids.

Flash forward 7 months and Kate’s business is still doing good and Mike is still there, but now his new girlfriend is pregnant which should be interesting. Also, it’s pretty clear that he has not given up on Kate and I suspect he makes a play at some point.

And, we get more of Anne being crazy which is quickly becoming a staple.

After the realization that her daughter is a pathological liar, she goes into overdrive. Her music teacher expresses concerns that Alice is falling asleep in class, and we find out that Anne has her scheduled her in 20 different activities so she doesn’t have time to get in trouble.

We also find out about her new punishment tactic. When Alice does something Anne doesn’t like she goes on Alice’s Instagram and shames her. That would be problematic and normally I would say Anne is wrong but Alice has also been the spawn of Satan the last couple seasons so it feels warranted. Also, Anne going overboard is kind of her thing.

We find out that Baby Charlie is now 4 years old which is crazy, but I forget that I watched these episodes in a compressed setting, not over 4 years.

But, he’s having trouble staying in bed so we’re treated to Nate and Kate as they try to keep him in his bed. It ends with Kate trying to drug him with what I assume is Benadryl.

The main event of the episode comes after when Kate has everyone over for a housewarming party which also serves to re-introduce Kate and Nathan as a couple.

Anne, of course, is not having it and voices her opinion in a rather hilarious fashion.

They try to play some weird game that Val brings. But Anne keeps making fun of Nathan until he cries.

And it’s hard to watch. Not because you feel bad for Nathan but it’s one of the worst fake cries I’ve seen on television. Nathan’s actor ain’t the greatest (he’s actually Catherine Reitman’s real-life husband) but it was just awkward to watch. I thought he was laughing at first.

It was nice to have the three main characters in the same spot. They’ve largely gone their separate ways especially since the kids are too old for the mom group.

There’s a hilarious bit where Lionel reacts to Frankie’s girlfriend’s baby. We have yet to see the child but Lionel freaks out when he sees the kids. You feel bad laughing but it’s funny nonetheless.

In the scenes for the next episode, it looks like things continue to heat up between Alice and Anne. Someone calls the police but we don’t see who.

Random Thoughts:

Anne gets a little crazier each season. I wouldn’t be surprised if she tries to murder him at some point.

I’d really like to know what’s up with Frankie’s kid.

No Jenny or Ian. I wonder if they’ll show up at some point.

It was strange watching it with commercials. A half-hour show also feels much shorter when you’re not watching ten of them in a row.

I liked seeing the Canadian commercials. I figured it would be all Tim Horton’s and hockey. There was a Tim Horton’s commercial but no hockey. Maybe next week.
