'Wild Mountain Thyme' is a romantic film.

Life is filled with surprises. Make the journey what you want.

Wild Mountain Thyme is a 2020 film. After the deaths of their parents, a couple disputes whether to sell their lands in Ireland. As they think about their pathways in life, a romance brews between Anthony and Rosemary.

As soon as I watched the trailer, I wanted to watch the film. Movies that take place in Ireland are always my go-to. Wild Mountain Thyme is a romantic film. The film gorges audiences in beautiful scenery, offers an invigorating moral, but the story is not its strongest.

Wild Mountain Thyme contains notable acting credits by Emily Blunt, Jaime Dornan, Christopher Walken, and Dearbhla Molloy. They were the highlights. Grappling with the layers of their characters, each finds their inner desires.

Blunt and Dornan were excellent in their interactions. Growing up is never easy - especially when you are an adult. We continue to learn about ourselves every day. Rosemary and Anthony are trying to understand where to go with their lives. The best scene was when they argued over their lifestyles and their relationship.

In my opinion, this is Christopher Walken’s best performance! At some moments it is tough to take him seriously with the Irish accent he sports. It’s his emotional eloquence that achieves his captivating performance.

Other credits include Don Wycherley, Clare Barrett, Darragh O’Kane, Abigail Coburn, Jon Hamm, and Barry McGovern. And credit goes to the members of the band in the tavern when they played the song, ‘Wild Mountain Thyme’.

Jon Hamm’s character did not feel necessary. Unless writers were trying to give him a similar lesson, it felt like filler. Plus, I did not like his behavior. At some moments, he acted like a pervert in the way he behaved around women.

What pulled me into the film was the atmosphere. Filmmakers managed to find the best location spots of mountains, the ocean, and open grasslands with amazing sunlight. I am looking forward to traveling once the pandemic is over. Traveling around the world is essential to discover new places and learn about others’ customs.

Writers could have spent more time with the story. It jumped around, discussing and even revealing information that we were not aware of. For example, I wish we could have had more time to learn the backgrounds behind Rosemary and Anthony’s parents. With the way the two interacted with one another, I thought they were married, but they were just friends.

Live life the way you want. John Patrick Shanley invoked a positive message about finding your place. He did a good job showcasing the little moments in life. We are all free to live the life that we want, to find romance, and most importantly to discover happiness.

It felt like Shanley focused more on the atmosphere and the characters preferably over the story. He conquered the culture of Ireland, except more focus could have been proffered to Irish accents. The film shifted around a lot in its editing, often jumping into situations with no explanation. The film takes a while to get into the relationship between Anthony and Rosemary.

Wild Mountain Thyme is a heartwarming story. It’s a movie that all audiences can relate to with the themes. One of my favorite parts that made me giggle was how every time one of the characters entered their land, they had to open several gates and then close them. It became a running gag.

I recommend that you find Wild Mountain Thyme. It’s easy to get pulled into its depths. Only, you’ll want to take a trip to Ireland after.
