Why Shigaraki is my favorite mha character

And no, it’s not because I think he’s cute

Okay, I’ve been trying to get around to this for ages now, so now I’m finally writing it. Cut me some slack.

First things first, let’s get some stuff straight. Unless your a insane simping fan girl, you probably think I’m crazy. Can’t deny it, but let’s get this clear: I DO NOT SIMP FOR HIM. That’s why I’ve gone into the trouble of writing this. I don’t think he’s hot(eww). Shigaraki is my favorite character because he’s the best villain I’ve seen in a while. And that’s saying a lot, because I’ve seen ATLA, and I never thought I would find a better villain than Azula. And why is he the best villain? Because he actually scared me. Shigaraki’s appearance is disturbing enough: his wrinkled mouth, blue hair, and not to mention the detached hands all over his body. For the first few times we saw him, I was actually kind of annoyed. Another disgusting, creepy adult who think beating up twelve year old kids will be their greatest achievement in life. But then I realized Shigaraki was only a few years older than deku in the first place. That was the first time I started to realize just how creepy Shigaraki was. I thought it couldn’t get better. Then we meet all for one. Okay, let’s first talk about the build up to this episode. As we meet Shigaraki again and again, we realize just how childish and immature he is. Like a real kid. Not one of those evil genius teens that are kids with unrealistic brains and you just know the person who wrote this was an adult who had never been a child. No, this was the true motives and actions of an angsty teen. He loves being in the spotlight and hates to lose. During the episode vs. hero kill arc, Shigaraki is mad at Stain for calling him immature and is determined to get revenge. Shigaraki’s childish actions make you realize just how dangerous he is. It’s like having a ten year old be in charge of some of the most dangerous and terrifying weapons in the world. Imagine giving that kind of power to your little brother or sister. Would they handle that well?

So this scared me because it showed how Shigaraki was willing to kill thousands of people just to get revenge for someone calling him a name. Then we take to an entirely different level of scary. During the episode “Encounter” class 1a decides to go shopping at the mall together. Izuku and Uraka are left alone, and of course she’s embarrassed after talking to Yuga and runs away, leaving Izuku alone in the mall. Then Shigaraki shows up and forces him to talk to him. After Uraka returns to make sure Izuku is okay, she finds him with Shigaraki and isn’t sure what is going on. Of course, Shigaraki freaks out and backs away before disappearing, but this just shows how clever Shigaraki actually is. He isn’t only powerful and childish, but he’s also incredibly smart. Why is this so scary? Because Shigaraki can pretty much do anything he wants. He could kill anyone he wants. He’s smart enough and powerful enough to do anything. But he’s also willing to do those things. There is no one more dangerous than a child, because they never stop to think about the consequences and they really don’t care. Alright, all of this and Almight and Izuku conversations about All For One build up a completely terrifying image of All for one. He’s an evil force who the number one hero could barely stop him. But then they give you pieces of of Shigaraki’s past, showing him bloody and curled on the ground. And who shows up? Almight? No. Another hero? No. Instead, it’s All For One. He walks up to him and says, “No one would help you, would they? It hurt, didn’t it? Tenko Shimera. You must have run, looking for a helping hand. What an awful thing. Who the heck made this kind of world anyway?” We don’t have much doubt All For One was talking about Shigaraki’s quirkless, abusive father. He hugs him, and even cries over what Shigaraki had to go through. Sounds an awful lot like something a hero would say, doesn’t it? In fact, it should have been something a hero said. Despite his warped sense of justice and being completely evil and the series main villain, he manages to pull of an act that was more decent than anything Almight had done. From then on, you get to see more of Shigaraki and All For One interacting. All for one is the only person Shigaraki cares about, and he goes so far to fight him and disobey him so he can try to stay and protect him, worried about his “father’s” condition when he fights Almight. Their relationship is… sweet. Which makes it all the more disturbing. These are too characters who have a healthy relationship- evil characters. And it’s not because they share ideas or have the same evil goal. No, it’s simply because All For One was the first- and only person, ever to be kind to Shigaraki. And Tomura just latched onto that. All for One is just kind to Shigaraki because he felt bad for him, and he acts like his father. He’s not trying to accomplish a higher goal by using him. Its completely amazing the way they pulled this off. Starting with that first moment in the alleyway, you realize that these villains have their own lives, and their own kind of love. I think the show was kind of trying to show that the hero system really wasn’t that good. But back on track. These things combined create the perfect villain. I do wish he had a redemption arc though. Anyway, I haven’t finished it, so maybe my opinion will change. And if you made it all the way down her with reading all of this and putting up with my rant, congratulations!

Thanks for reading!
