What you never knew about The Bodyguard

Trivia for this classic romantic thriller

The Bodyguard is a movie that is quotable and memorable for the thrills, romance, and of course the songs from Whitney Houston. After revisiting this movie (and no matter how many times I watch it, I'll still get emotional at the end) and found information that changed the way I thought about the movie.

1. The woman in the iconic movie poster is not Whitney Houston.

You would think it is right? Turns out Whitney was resting that day, so Kevin Costner got her body double to wear the costume for the photo. She was instructed by Kevin Costner to hide her face to make the appearance of seeking safety after a horrifying act that occurred at the chaotic concert scene. Kevin Costner also was the one who got to pick this photo used to promote the film.

2. The ending scene had a silly mishap.

The last part where Rachel gets off the plane to go give Frank one last kiss, the camera spins around them in the moment of their passionate kiss. During that scene, director Mick Jackson revealed in the making of the movie featurette that the cameraman lost his grip on the camera and it just kept spinning. So imagine that scene again with the knowledge of what was going on that during that process of filming it.

3. The film took nineteen years

This story was first written by Lawrence Krasden in the 1970s the original ideas for the characters of the Bodyguard, with Steve McQueen and Diana Ross in mind. Despite the controversial pairing for casting, it would have never happened. Steve McQueen died in 1980, Diana Ross had irreconcilable differences with Ryan O'Neal who was the second attempt at the male lead. Since then, it was rejected 67 times, making the production even harder to get green lit. The story remained on the shelf until the 90s. When Kevin Costner was cast, he based his performance on Steve McQueen and even got his signature haircut. It may not have been the

4. Kevin Costner was the one who suggested the song to be a capella

The original version Whitney was going to sing didn’t have the well-known a capella beginning. It was originally going to have a instrumental start. Kevin Costner asked to see what an a capella version would be like. The musical team humored him and asked Whitney to sing the beginning without musical accompaniment. It was well received to try it that way for the movie , the it went on to be most listened song of 1992. The rest is history , all because Kevin Costner asked .

5. The remakes

Technically there is three remakes, two of them are done and one is in the process. The first one is an odd re-imagining. Gary The Bodyguard, a 12 minute cartoon with the same premise as the first one. But the plot is about a a man named Gary that has to stay close to a tentacle hentai demon that is a pornographic star. Bizarre but at least it's interesting. The second remake is what a lot of people thought it was. It was my first thought as well. Looking at it in hindsight it's more of a nod to the original then a remake. But nonetheless it does count because of it's modern twist to the plot. Bodyguard is a six episode mini series about a man named David Budd, a former military officer now working in the Specialist Protection Branch of the Metropolitan police to protect the Home Secretary Julie Montague. Despite the differences he has towards her conduct in politics, someone out there wants this woman dead. The third is still in development hell. It's confirmed that there will be an official theatrical remake but it's still unknown as to who will be cast or what the plot-line will be.

It's a powerful film that still makes me fall in love with it every time. It's a movie that does hold it's legacy, even if Whitney Houston isn't on this earth anymore to see the growing impact this film. The music still holds a record as the best selling soundtrack and continues to be listened to anyone. If you quote this movie, sing the songs, then you at least need to watch this movie.
