What If Wanda had survived the Snap?

In a snap, the universe had been changed. But what would have happened if Wanda Maximoff hadn’t been one of the billions who had been lost?

She had to watch in gasped breaths as the monster among them ripped the Mind Stone from Vision’s head. Her heart beat against her chest as her hands trembled. Why? Why was he doing this? Didn’t he have enough power? Couldn’t he have just left them alone? Couldn’t everyone have just left them alone? No. Thanos couldn’t. Because he had his own plans and her family, and she meant nothing to him. She was an ant on a hill, and he was a boot. Hovering over her, waiting for the right moment to step down to finish her.

She could hear the wind and heard the fighting, but her mind was on the blank face of vision in front of her. His body crumbled and resting in her lap. She hadn’t remembered moving to take him. Her mind was a mess of noise. She felt her heart clenching as her mind played every painful memory. The bomb crashing into the ceiling, their parents’ cries of pain before silence. The emptiness of where Pietro once was. Now all she could feel was hollow inside as Vision’s dead eyes stared back up at her.

“I am inevitable.” Her eyes snapped up just in time to see Thanos snap, and suddenly it all was gone. She watched her friends disappear. She could feel the world melting around her. But something whirled within her and around her and shifted. No. No. He would not win. Not this time. She would not allow it.

“NO!”

So. Here we go. Wanda Maximoff is clearly one of the most powerful people within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and in Marvel Comics. Her being snapped out wasn’t an accident. It was clearly on purpose. Having someone that powerful on hand would have turned the tides of battle far sooner than anyone at Marvel would have wanted. No, they needed her gone, so they could make another movie and have that epic battle.

Now I loved Endgame. It was an epic fight scene and the aftermath of that movie hurt and delighted me to no end. WandaVision and now Multiverse of Madness are going to be listed as some of the greatest things to come from Marvel for years to come, I’m sure of it. But the fact remains that Wanda had to be snapped.

A woman would can with a twist of her hand can create pocket dimensions, bring children to life out of thin air, and become an unstoppable force of nature—she would have been able to take Thanos out without a doubt in my mind. With the Infinity Stones in his hands? No. But after Vision died? Oh boy, I would not would have liked my own odds, even with those stones.

So let’s think here. What if Wanda hadn’t been snapped? What if she had survived?

Clearly she would have had an emotion eruption, much like we saw during Age of Ultron when she lost Pietro. I don’t believe it would have been as large as she was in love with Vision, but she wasn’t connected to him like she was with her brother. I think the emotion build up would have unleashed the Scarlet Witch a lot sooner than Westview. We would have seen her be able to create those pocket dimensions and manipulate space and time as if they were puppets on threads. I don’t think she could have undid the snap, but I think she would have been a force that the Avengers would have had to deal with before they could have gone after Thanos.

They sat there for a while, trying to figure things out. Trying to find their missing friends and Thanos himself. But if Wanda tapped into the Scarlet Witch powers, they wouldn’t have needed Carol Danvers at all. I’m sure with her power being at its emotional peek she could have tracked down Thanos.

I don’t believe Wanda would have taken the Avengers with her. Her mind would have geared fully on revenge and centered on Thanos and killing him for taking the only person she had left from her. The Scarlet Witch would be fully in control of her. A force of nature on a collision course with a tyrant who isn’t ready for it. She would arrive to find him having destroyed the stones, her only way of bringing Vision back, and would lose whatever was left of the Wanda we knew and loved.

The Scarlet Witch would take hold completely and I believe she would make Thanos pay in the worst way possible. We know from other avenues (like the What If series recently finished on Disney+) that someone of strong magical connection can break down the walls of the multiverse. So now we have Wanda, in full Scarlet Witch mode, breaking and shattering the walls around the multiverse. Once Thanos was dead and gone, she would use this probably to find Vision. Find a version of him to make hers. But Vision is a hero, and Wanda at this point is an evil being of pure chaos energy. He would know and see this and shun her. Be wary of her.

Any Vision who did that would set her off worse and worse. Cause more and more ripples to occur through the multiverse. If you thought seeing an evil Stephen Strange was terrifying, I’d like to point out the Zombie Wanda from the Zombieverse. Now turn her human… and you have essentially what I see Wanda becoming.

Do I like they snapped Wanda out of existence in Infinity War? No. Do I understand it? I sure freaking do. Because no one’s prepared for that hot mess. No one in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is powerful enough at this point in time to take on a Wanda at her max Scarlet Witch.

Let’s just count our lucky stars that Wanda hasn’t gone off the deep end just yet.
