After a few episodes steeped in tragedy, Marvel's What If..? returned to a lighter tone with it's seventh episode. In 'What If.. Thor was an only child?', Thor and many, many friends of his head for Earth and throw an enormous party. The problem? The last planet Thor and his friends partied on ended up destroyed.

While the party was ultimately brought under control in time due to the intervention of Thor's Mother, Frigga, if it hadn't been, then it would not have been the first time a party in the MCU ended on a less than fun note. Here's five times MCU parties have ended badly.

1. Peggy has a jealous streak (Captain America: The First Avenger)

After successfully rescuing four hundred prisoners of war in Captain America: The First Avenger, his best friend Bucky Barnes among them, Steve Rogers visits a bar to celebrate. He is soon distracted, and enchanted, when Agent Peggy Carter arrives in a gorgeous red dress. Peggy informs Steve that Howard Stark has some new equipment for him to look at, so Steve reluctantly departs.

While waiting to meet with Howard, Steve encounters a young woman enamoured with the idea of Captain America. She surprises Steve with a kiss, unfortunately witnessed by Peggy, leading to the now famous scene in which Peggy shoots at Steve to 'test out' his new vibranium shield. Fortunately, Steve and Peggy make up soon after.

2. Tony's last hurrah (Iron Man 2)

For much of Iron Man 2, on top of dealing with main villain Ivan Vanko, Tony is also facing a slow death by Palladium poisoning, and the fact that the U.S Government wants to take the Iron Man suit away from him. As he is dying anyway and nothing seems to matter, Tony returns to his previous party boy ways.

During one particularly wild party at Stark Tower, Tony uses the Iron Man suit as entertainment for his guests, including shooting bottles out of the air. Rhodey, horrified at Tony's irresponsible use of the suit, takes control of Tony's new prototype Mk II suit, fighting his friend into submission and taking the suit to the army. Unfortunately, this proves to be exactly what the film's villains wanted.

3. Interrupted Revels (Avengers: Age of Ultron)

After a series of successful raids finally sees the Avengers take possession of Loki's sceptre, Tony proposes a party at Stark Tower to celebrate. At first, everyone is having fun. Everyone is chatting, flirting, drinking, and telling stories. But unbeknownst to the party-goers, trouble is building elsewhere in the building.

Before Thor takes the sceptre back to Asgard, Tony decides to use it to complete his passion project: Ultron, a robot intended to bring peace on Earth. Unfortunately, during the party, Ultron gains sentience, and decides the Avengers must be eliminated. The party comes to a dramatic end when Ultron attacks the Avengers, before escaping into the internet, beginning the major conflict of Age of Ultron.

4. The party is over for Loki (Thor: Ragnarok)

When he secretly took Odin's place at the end of Thor: The Dark World, many fans assumed it was the beginning of a new nefarious plot. However, all Loki really wanted was to be King, which he now was. So, instead of continued plotting, what Loki actually did was turn Asgard into a giant continuous party celebrating the life of it's glorious fallen hero, Loki.

The party ends when Thor shows up, forcing Loki to reveal his deception. During his time as King, Loki had been neglecting the other realms under Odin's protection, forcing Thor to eventually step in and pick up the slack.

5. Dinner at the Vision residence (WandaVision)

Though there are a few misunderstandings before they get there, the main plot of WandaVision's first episode, 'Filmed Before A Live Studio Audience', involves the couple hosting a dinner party for Vision's boss, Mr. Hart, and his wife. After a few classic sitcom mishaps, Wanda seemingly saves the day by making breakfast for dinner. However, things take a dark turn when, after Wanda and Vision are unable to answer his questions about their past, Mr. Hart begins to choke. Thankfully, at Wanda's urging, Vision is able to save Mr. Hart.

Things appear to return to normal relatively quickly, and the dinner party actually ends on a rather lighthearted note. However, for fans, Mr. Hart's near-death experience served as a chilling sign that things were definitely amiss in Westview.

The lesson? Never plan a party in the MCU.
