Tyler Christopher did not choose his sister for guardianship

Good morning soap fans there is breaking news for the second time in recent months regarding Tyler Christopher who portrayed Nikolas Cassadine on General Hospital and Stefan Dimera on Days of Our Lives. The popular actor was last in the spotlight a few months ago after he was found asleep on an airport floor. He was arrested, and charged with being drunk in public and he later admitted at the age 9 he drank vanilla extract and got his first buzz.

Tyler said that he began to drink alcohol and became addicted and he has been fighting for sobriety ever since. Christopher now is feeling some repercussions from when fell and fractured his skull in 2019 and was not able to care for himself. Christopher was estranged from his wife so there was no other family member to help him.

His sister Susan Asmo Baker stepped in while he was unconscious in the hospital and filed a request for guardianship and the judge approved it in 2020. This included control over the actor's finances when Asmo took her brother into her home in Indiana and cared for him until he recovered so he would not have to go to a long-term care facility.

Fans say Christopher is ungrateful

Now Christopher is saying he prefers homelessness to someone else handling his money and some fans say he sounds ungrateful. The actor emphasizes that he did not choose his sister as guardian but he was in no shape to do that and the hospital probably welcomed someone stepping up and beign responsible for his medical bills.

The beloved soap vet is accusing Baker of taking $40,000 of his money for personal use and also purchasing her son a MacBook while she had guardianship over him. She was also in charge of "negotiating with Christopher’s creditors, hiring a lawyer to represent him in his pending divorce, and selling his house".

“I never thought in a million years that I would be taken advantage of by a family member,” Christopher told Bloomberg Law. “I was recovering from a brain injury so the choice for guardianship was made for me without my knowledge.”

Some fans say Baker had a right to use the money

Christopher who admits he was homeless for six months now says he prefers being without a home to having someone else controlling his money es. Some fans who commented on the original article on Bloomberg Law say Baker had a right to some of the money because she was caring for her brother while he was incapacitated. She utilized her time and effort and he recovered while under her care. Tyler, however, obviously feels he was taken advantage of.

“I was recovering from a brain injury so the choice for guardianship was made for me without my knowledge.”

Christopher broke the news about his current issues while talking to Michael Fairman on Michael Fairman TV. He did nto say where he was living at this time but after he was released from jail he shared Instagram images where he visited General Hospital co-star Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos). Fans are wondering if someone will give the actor another shot at a role or if his alcohol issues will keep him from finding work.

Both of his previous soap roles have been recast and although he says he would like to return to daytime there have been no offers at this point. Be on the lookout for updates on what happens next with Tyler Christopher in his personal life, his career, and his financial situation.
