We have to get back to Andy’s house before he leaves for college.

Pixar’s Toy Story 3 landed in theaters in 2010. Andy is now grown up and going to college. The toys believe that Andy no longer wants them so they go to a daycare. As Woody returns to Andy, the toys learn that Sunny Side Daycare is not the safest place for toys.

Toy Story 3 was the highest-grossing movie in 2010. I saw Toy Story 3 on the first day it opened on my final day of eighth grade. That was the best day ever! The third installment of the popular Toy Story franchise went in a direction that nobody thought would go. Toy Story 3 establishes friendship, courage, and adventure.

This is the best Toy Story film to depict the ensemble. I like movies with big ensembles. Each toy gets equal screentime and their interactions feel natural. Voice Credits include Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Wallace Shawn, John Ratzenburger, Blake Clark, the late Don Rickles, and Estelle Harris. John Morris returned one last voiceover of Andy.

Woody is persistent in keeping the toys with Andy despite him being all grown up. The film explores Woody's internal conflict about his loyalty to Andy. Hanks and Allen insisted that they record all their dialogue together. Woody and Buzz have the best dynamic.

When the film first came out, I was so giddy at all the Buzz and Jessie moments. Pixar spoiled us, especially with their tango dance at the end. I fell in love with their relationship and I still ship them today.

Did you know that Mattel didn’t allow Barbie in the first Toy Story? Barbie and Ken are a riot in Toy Story 3. It wouldn’t be the same without the voices of Jodie Benson and Michael Keaton.

Get ready to meet a new villain. Lotso (Ned Beaty) may look like a huggable teddy bear but he is vile. Several test audiences wanted Lotso to redeem himself in the climax.

Lee Unkrich and the animation team did a splendid job with every frame of the movie. Toy Story 3 scores animation boundaries like never before. Trash bags were the hardest to animate. Pixar has achieved technical innovation with extraordinary attention to detail. The shadowing matches the dark tone.

I highly recommend that you listen to the commentary on the DVD. Commentaries include insightful stories about the making of films. Writers scrapped several ideas that may have slowed down the story. This is what you do in films. Use your creativity to the highest peak. There’s no wrong answer.

The screenplay took 2 1/2 years to write and storyboard. Pixar watched several prison movies to get the feel for the right escape scenarios. They also researched daycares.

Speaking of darkness, I am still surprised by what the toys endured in the climax. This scene is one of the most intense scenes in any Pixar film. I almost (you know what, I think I was crying).

Toy Story 3 is a roller coaster of emotions. It’s an epic adventure from start to finish. The emotional impact is heightened with Randy Newman’s musical score. At the time the movie was released my brother was going to college. My mom got choked up from the ending. Eventually, we have to grow up and let go of things.

The Toy Story franchise continues with a fifth film in the making but for me, this movie has the perfect ending. On your next rainy day, I suggest that you have a marathon and watch all the Toy Story films.
