The Young and the Restless: Fans continue to be outraged

The Young and the Restless has caused distress among viewers regarding Doug Davidson yet again. Since 2018 the actor who plays Paul Williams has not been a regular in Genoa City and yet the show continues to reference him. Each time they do, fans get their hopes up only to have them dashed. There is a phrase that older generations used to say which I will paraphrase: "Do your business or get off the pot." T

This was in reference to a child who sat all day on the kiddy commode or potty chair and did nothing as he or she was being potty trained. The Young and the Restless keeps teasing viewers by mentioning Paul but not bringing Davidson back to the show. It happened about 6 or 7 weeks ago and most recently on Wednesday, December 16. Fans are discussing the disrespect of the 40-year soap vet on social media and Soaps.com even wrote about it.

Paul Williams needs closure

On Wednesday, Christine Williams (Laura Lee Bell) made her once every 2 or 2 months pop up to The Young and the Restless. She said that her husband, Paul, believed it was too soon for Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd) to return to the police force. Many viewers were outraged at how callously the CBS soap is treating a veteran character and their comments are saying that Y&R needs to "do their business" and produce Paul or get off the pot and leave him alone.

If Davidson is not going to be asked back to the show where he called home for 4 decades then his name should not be mentioned. It teases his fans and gives them false hope. The actor has stated several times recently that he does not believe he will ever work on The Young and the Restless again but his followers continue to stand in faith that he will.

Mal Young is the reason Paul is gone and Josh Griffith has not honored his word to return Genoa City to the glory days. He fired Gina Tognoni and rehired Michelle Stafford as Phyllis but has really done nothing exceptional with the character. Gloria Bardwell (Judith Chapman) shows up every now and again but is never utilized to the fullest of her ability.

Doug Davidson fans remain hopeful

Although Davidson has said he will not return to The Young and the Restless his fans believe he may one day get the chance. Soap viewers know that actors change their minds so they watch what they see more than accept what they hear. Consider Steve Burton who portrayed Paul's son with Niki Newman (Melody Scott Thomas) Dillion Macavoy on the CBS soap. Burton had been playing Jason Morgan on ABC's General Hospital for close to 20 years when he left the soap in 2013. He said he was leaving acting behind and wanted to spend time with his family. Fans were stunned when just months later he turned up on Y&R.

Eric Braeden who portrays Victor Newman has spoken out several times about the bad way in which legacy character Paul Williams and his portrayer "Dougie Davidson |" have been treated. Fans have sent emails and even had a petition going that demanded CBS rehire the veteran actor but nothing has changed. It is actually cruel and insensitive to tease the viewers as well as mention Paul as if he is still a part of the show. The Young and the Restless needs to bring Davidson back or give someone else Paul's position at the police department and move on.

The Young and the Restless:s Legacy characters and the fans should be respected.

Both the fans and legacy characters should be respected by the top brass at The Young and the Restless. It makes no sense to continue showing Christine without her husband ever being at her side. Perhaps the fact that Lauralee Bell's parents William and Lee Phillips Bell created the CBS soap is why she is kept on.
