'The Young and the Restless' actor Bryton James teases a 'Family Matters' reunion
The entertainer portrayed Richie on the ABC series from the age of 3. He says the fans will get what they have been asking for.
Telma Hopkins portrayed Rachel on the ABC sitcom FAMILY MATTERS and a young Bryton James played her son Richie. The duo will be working together again when Hopkins has a role on the CBS soap THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS where James character Devon Hamilton is the grandson of the late great Katherine Chancellor. Hopkins will be on the daytime drama for a few episodes portraying private detective Denise Tolliver who will uncover shocking details about Devon's lady friend Amanda Sinclair.
Initially, Amanda just seemed to me a Hilary replacement but THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS is developing her back story. Fans figured out correctly that she and Hilary were twins separated at birth and more information is being learned about Amanda's past. She now has a mother, sister, and grandfather and is learning about her biological dad. Whatever Denise brings to the table is going to be pretty shocking.
Telma Hopkins and Bryton James have not been on screen with each other since 1998 when their previous series ended. Both said they are excited to be working together again. James stated recently that Hopkins was a big fan of THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS and he shared with execs that she would make a good fit on the daytime drama. His words have been heeded and the former mother and son will soon be working together once more.
When asked about a possible FAMILY MATTERS reunion, Bryton James said that if the fans continue asking for it they will receive it. This is wonderful news for viewers who enjoyed the series and continue to watch it in syndication on cable and streaming services. Two of the cast from the show Rosetta Lenore, (mother Winslow) and Michelle Thomas, (Myra) have passed away. Lenore died on March 17, 2002, at age 89 from pneumonia. Thomas died in December 1998 from cancer.
Michelle Thomas also briefly portrayed Callie Rogers an aspiring singer on THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS until she became sick and passed away at age 30. The other cast members of FAMILY MATTERS are all still in the entertainment industry except for Kelly Shanygne Williams, (Laura) who is involved in charities and does public speaking. Darius McCrary who portrayed Eddie Winslow also appeared on Y&R as Malcolm Winters from December 2009-October 2011.
Family Matters had 2015 episodes and has the distinction of being the third longest-running sitcom with a black cast behind THE COSBY SHOW which comes in 2nd with 201 episodes and, and THE JEFFERSONS which is number 1 with 253 episodes. The remaining cast members of FAMILY MATTERS got together in 2017 and reminisced about the past. In the above video, they share fond memories and you can see the love they have for one another is real.
They all agree that if a script drops in their laps for a reboot of the popular sitcom they will be on it. Be on the lookout for updates regarding a possible continuation of the highly-rated sitcom. The Pearl by John Steinbeck
‘The Pearl’ is a well-known by under-read classic and, as a teacher, many of my students have absolutely loved it. Not just because it is short, but because it presents a storyline that is interesting and corrupting. Easy to read and easier to analyse, ‘The Pearl’ is one of Steinbeck’s hardest hitting classics with an underlying message about protecting what is actually important. By the end of the book, the reader is left defeated and believing in the wrong thing. The idealism around this book is incredible and it is so dark too. For a long while you are supporting the wrong people, thinking in the wrong way and the whole story becomes one long act of misdirection by Steinbeck to show in a ‘Monkey’s Paw’ fashion why we should never chase wealth and status.
