The backlash for HBO's eighth and final season of Game of Thrones isn't over yet...

The ratings of all the seasons

HBO's Game of Thrones has been able to stay in the top with a lowest on 91% in the Tomatometer... that is until season eight. Within the past two weeks, the score dropped another 5%, leaving the show at its new all time low with a 55% score on the Tomatometer. If that isn't ice cold enough, the fans rated it even lower at 34%.

A 34% audience review rating... ouch

It's not just the fact there were only six episodes, or that there were awkwardly drawn out camera shots to make up for the lack of writing... and it's not even the horrible "boring talking" that was put at the end of the show that actually counted towards the time of the show!!! No, it's the fact that there was a very slow seven season buildup just for the rest of the story to end all once. If the story was spread out more, I feel like I could have sympathized with some characters more... now I am just confused on what exactly happened in those last six episodes.

The ratings of each individual episode in season eight

So... what went wrong with the last season?

Word on the street is that all the blame, or at least most of it, goes completely towards the writers. It was announced in February 2018 that the writers of the HBO series Game of Thrones, Benioff and Weiss, were hired by Disney to start working on Star Wars. Apparently, it's not just one movie either; they will be crafting an entire series.

Rumour has it that Benioff and Weiss rushed through the last season of Game of Thrones in order to eagerly start their new project with Disney. However, now that fans are outraged, Disney may regret their investment in their two new writers. This last season of Game of Thrones has certainly created quite the controversy.

What are fans saying?

"Last two episodes are worst thing I ever seen!" - Jainil P

"good show, bad writers" - Fahrel G

"They rushed through it, one of the most epic battles that they were setting up for for the entire series ended in one night, and you couldn't see 80% of it. The ending was a true WTF moment. Not adding in the dozens of plot holes." - Justin H

"HBO offered the budget for more seasons... George wanted more seasons and there was more than enough material to get at least 10 seasons. Thank you D&D for ruining one of the best show ever."- Violet V

What are critics saying?

"Benioff and Weiss organized their entire series around an ending that they didn't write to." - Willa Paskin

"This is not the kind of storytelling we fell in love with, and this ending is not an earned ending." - Marianna Neal

"Lots of epic shows feel a little underpopulated towards the end but there's really no excuse for something as mythic, huge and mesmerizing to end as disappointingly as this." - Hugo Rifkind

"The cast, the characters—and the fans—deserved better." - Keith Watson

These angry fans and critics are not alone...

An online petition has caught the attention of fans and journalists all around. It turns out that the fans want the last season redone, but this time with "competent writers." Congratulations Benioff and Weiss (she said sarcastically), two months ago I couldn't even remember your names, and now you are infamous and #trending because of it. I must admit that I am curious to see what will happen with your new career with Disney writing Star Wars. Star Wars fans are pretty defensive too...
