The Night She Watched 'Beauty and the Beast' Alone

She turned out the lights, grabbed her soda, and a blanket. She curled up on the love seat like they used to do together. And she thought about her husband as a tear came to her eye. This movie she thought she would not watch. The new movies sometimes just did not look good, and this one she was not sure about. She finally decided to watch it because it reminded her of her husband. Beauty and the Beast quickly became her favorite princess movie when her husband, who at the time was her boyfriend, referenced them as a couple to the beauty and the beast.

Her, the beauty, because she was beautiful inside and out. Her looks, her strength, her love for him and everything else. Him, the beast, because he felt ugly, fat, and unloved. But to her, he was the handsome prince that the beast was underneath. Of course, it is not called beauty and the handsome prince now is it?

“There was an ending song that made me cry. It made me think of him,” she said to herself as a tear fell from her eye. She wished that they were watching it together.

“That movie does not look, good mama. Do you like it?” her daughter asked her.

“I like the movie sweetie. What I do not like is the way they have this beast looking. I like the animated version of the beast the best.”

“Why do you not want to see it?”

“It looks stupid.” The mother smiled and let out a small laugh at her silliness. She then said, “Maybe one day you will grow up to makes movies and you will make better ones. And you can even star in them.”

She got ready for bed and listened to the movie. As she went to sleep, she had the thoughts of her husband, and it was very hard to even go to sleep until she had put it on to listen to. She went to sleep having sweet dreams of her husband and dancing in the moonlight. She dreamt of singing the songs together that were in the movie. She dreamt of the wide-open spaces and the meadows they could run through together. She thought about a world where he was home and not away from her.

Where did the horns come from? The beast in the cartoon was so much better. And what is with the opera music? At first, she was unsure if Emma Watson was going to be a very good Belle, but she actually was not too terrible. “Maybe I just thought that because my husband likes her so much,” she said when asked why she did not like her very much. Although she does not like her too well, she had to admit that she thought she did a better job than what she thought she would have done. Gaston, of course, is still an ass. She did not think much of the guy who played Gaston.

“You know what else I do not understand?” she asked.

“What?”

“If they are going to change so many of the objects and they are going to change the beast and so many other things… why is Gaston pretty much the same? Why is Belle pretty much the same? It does not make sense to me why they would change so much, and the few things they left alone they left pretty much the same. Even all of the songs are the same. There were only a couple that are different or new at all.”

“I agree.”

All in all, it was not a bad movie though.
