The Making of Rick and Isabel vs. The Billionaires (Part Three)

If you have not yet watched Rick and Isabel vs. The Billionaires (Part Three) you may not want to read this article as it contains spoilers throughout. I have sectioned off the a Spoiler Alert regarding the Special Guest Cameo as for surprise effect I am trying tom keep this special a secret.

On Saturday August 1st I began work on part three of Rick and Isabel vs. The Billionaires. I completed the project on Saturday September 12th. During that six week period of time few different things happened. My mom got a new caregiver named Leti, who is now like family. Dolly Parton died, this really tugged at my heart. 

What grounds the film is its unexpected heart; despite the global scale of the revolution, the driving emotional force is the endearing, protective relationship between Rick and his mother, Isabel

This film is purposely crude and amateur. I intentionally left some inconsistencies intact. My goal was to create a strange little cinematic universe.

The film is made from around 80 six second segments. I’ve taken the segments and edited them then pieced them together. This process was very time consuming. The parts I spent the most time on were the dialog and the prompting. I would spend up to five to six hours just to figure out the dialog and how to prompt the scene for just three segments equalling 18 seconds. Sometimes it takes time just to get the segment right. There are many times when I spend 15 to 20 minutes just on a six second segment before I get it right.

I use Grok to animate the segments. I am compromised about using Grok seeing that a portion of the fee I pay goes to a certain trillionaire. It’s not that I am against success. But, I am against using deception to manipulate people. However, Grok is the best image to video tool out there. I’ve tried several others and I always come back to Grok.

To create the images for the video segments I used Gemini. Sometimes I use CoPilot but Gemini seems to do a better job.

Part Three was the resolution of the continuing dramedy. Right from the start I knew I wanted to use one of my GreenHouse 2 songs in the show. I pondered each of the 10 songs and concluded that “Flying Bird” would be the easiest to integrate. Having the three man characters (Rick, Isabel, and Dharrsheena) fly in the sky like superheroes seemed like a good fit. This lent not just a bit of fantasy to the show but also humor. 

It took me several tries to get Dharrsheena’s entrance right. Finally, with a bit of editing and some magic of my own I got the entrance I wanted.

Did You Know: I have written several songs that are about birds flying such as “Flying Bird,” “Blackbird Fly,” and “Little Blackbird.” As much as I am fascinated by the mechanisms of a bird in flight I am very much afraid of birds, even little harmless hummingbirds. For some reason they scare the living daylights out of me.

I also knew that I was going to have Rick and Dharrsheena capture the billionaires and rescue the country from further decay. But, I wanted to add a third figure pivotal to the show’s theme. The first person that came to my mind was Lamar Wiggins. He has been a steadfast online friend for almost three years and is a well known Vocal Media staple. 

I had the plot down. Rick comes up with an idea to save the country. Dharrsheena’s magic would help him accomplish this goal. Ultimately Lamar would become the leader of the United States. But, it was missing something. There needed to be some emotional distress. What could that be? I came up with the idea of Isabel being kidnapped. Rick was devastated. It threw a temporary wrench in his plan.

As I planned the rebuilding of the country I started thinking about what a newly rebuilt United States might look like - what the future has in store. I came up with a house that can clean itself, lighting that automatically  and titanium artifacts that are able to move. 

The roads are automated and all vehicles are solar powered and travel on a computerized rail.

With Part Three I let my imagination take me much further into fantasy than the first two parts. I put a lot of work and thought into this, but I had a lot of fun along the way. Even got a few chuckles.

My original plan did not include any cameo appearances. But when I got to the part where Rick, Isabel, Dharrsheena were flying back to Irvine, California I started thinking it would be fun to include my cartoon character Miss Gloria. She has been very popular and I figured people would enjoy seeing her - so I gave her a quick cameo spot.

I was going to come up with a grand ending for the story. I thought of ending it with a bang. But then as I got towards the end, I realized that a subtle ending would be best. I ended it with the trio flying home while this song “Flying Bird” played. That seemed to be fitting - a peaceful uplifting fairy tale end.
