The Constant

“You Need to Read the comics”

Bullshit argument!

.

Accept when people say

"You have to read the Marvel comics"

Or just

"You have to read the comics"

It gives the incorrect impression that there is one overall shared official storyline!

But there isn’t!

.

There is are different versions,

Retold a huge number of times in a large variety of ways,

By decades of different writers.

.

So, when some self-appointed Comics Inquisition General rants on about how

“Film X” has committed some terrible form of comic book blasphemy by daring to deviate from the official holy writ!

.

Feel free to ask them?

.

Which version?

Which Writer?

Which Print Run?

.

If the best they can answer is,

“Errr, Well the official one of course!”

“Your noob casual!”

.

Then maybe you should press politely with,

.

“Yes, I understand you meant an official one,”

.

Then ask

“But, beg your pardon, your highness…”

“Which official one?”

.

Marvel on 1 came out in October 1939

.

The Marvel universe did NOT start with all those lovely Universe numbers, that you are all loving memorising.

That was a much later desperate attempt to clear up all the different version dependencies.

.

That concept for alternative universes (as numbered) was not created until the 1980s for the Captain Britain Corps.

.

By then, there is so much printed material that it is impossible to plug every hole.

.

It was an attempt that failed to be totally successful!

.

BUT HERE IS THE REAL ADVICE!

.

Do Not Sweat it.

.

The hardcore “Fans” may care…

They may think it is the most important thing in the world.

.

But I can almost guarantee the creators of the comics themselves just wanted to bring escapism and joy your life!

.

Honour them, both those alive and those now departed,

By doing just that!

.

EXCELSIOR!

.

.

In a similar vein,

In almost a reversal of the above sentiment…

I have to admit there are three thoughts that haunt my little geek mind!

These are...

WHAT EXACTLY IS MAGNETO'S POWER?

THANOS v’s DARK PHEONIX!,

AND

What is Marvel’s Mjǫllnir Morality?

.

.

WHAT EXACTLY IS MAGNETO'S POWER?

.

Let us play a game or ALL the time's Magneto has been able to affect non-Ferris Metals. (Metals that are non-magnetic)

.

Or the much easier version,

.

Let us play a game of ALL the times Magneto has NOT been able to affect non-Ferris Metals. (Metals that are non-magnetic.)

.

Errr ‘0’

.

Has never happened!

.

None!

.

Zero.

.

.

Conclusion,

.

.

Iron Man is Totally Screwed!

(and not in a good way!)

.

.

I have no problem with Iron Man beating Magneto as long as the science “As expressed in the Marvel Universe” is consistent and makes sense!

.

And even if the answer to the above is "Nano Tubes" then that still does not explain coins?

.

It still does not excuse Magneto ability to affect a normal non-Ferris coin,

I am pretty DAM sure coins are not made of nanotubes!

.

To be honest I not really that bothered about

"Who would beat who"

.

But I am very annoyed about the ignoring of the Marvel laws of physics,

.

RE: Ferris and Non-Ferris metals and Magneto's ability to affect them.

.

They have him picking up coins!

.

When is the last time you managed to pick up a coin with a magnet?

.

Never, that's when!

.

It is a huge ignored plot loophole!

.

.

If Magneto’s powers are not based on magnetism, THEN they need to clarify that and explain more clearly exactly what Magneto’s powers are and the nature of the limitations!

.

.

THANOS v’s DARK PHEONIX!

.

My opinion that is almost 100% bound to be totally wrong!

.

THIS IS 100% Bound to be Wrong!

.

But my own gut feeling is that

.

(Not so much from the MCU but rather from the original Marvel comics,)

.

Is that Thanos with all his pretty clearly categorised crystals and army, and discipline seems to be the epitome of order.

.

While Dark Phoenix springs out of nowhere within the same universe with power equal to ‘Thanos with a full infinity gauntlet’, Full or blind toddler style rage and fury, seems to be the equal and opposite personification of chaos!.

.

It almost seems....

.

(Again I admit THIS IS 100% Bound to be Wrong!)

.

As if when a superpower of “Order” is achieved by Thanos that the universe had to maintain balance by manifesting randomly, an equally powerful force of chaos!

.

So in a way, Thanos has unintentionally made Dark Phoenix happen!

.

.

Kind of reminds me of the legendary Fantastic 4 issue with the battle between Galactus and the In-betweener!

.

(Risking the entire universe in the process!)

.

This is a paraphrase rather than a quote from Galactus as he fights the In-betweener

.

“You say you have no opposite!"

"But that very fact makes me your opposite!

"I am your opposite!”

.

.

I know is wrong for a large number of reasons, but I love the idea, anyway!

.

.

What is Marvel’s Mjǫllnir Morality?

.

It is clear that Thors Hammer Mjǫllnir is making some sort of moral judgement about worthiness.

.

But no one seems to be asking if the values of Mjǫllnir are worth having and living up to!

.

If I a person tries unsuccessfully to lift Mjǫllnir, then maybe that says more about (and condemns) Odin and perhaps Asgardian culture than is does the person trying to lift it?!

.

So, what do we think Mjǫllnir “Values” Are?

.

Would Martin Luther King, Mother Theresa, Mahatma Gandhi, or even Jesus Christ or Buddha be able to theoretically lift it?

.

(Based on Mjolnir’s apparent moral judgement ONLY!)

(NOT on divine power!)

(No one is attacking anyone’s faith; we are strictly just assessing what Mjǫllnir considers worth not what is actually morally right!)

.

So, what are Mjǫllnir values?

.

1)

.

Obviously killing is ok

.

(Although under what conditions seems unclear).

It is, after all, a Weapon!

.

2)

.

Pride seems to be a bit of a “No-No”

Again under what conditions seem's a little muddy.

.

3)

.

There is seems to be a need to have the moral courage to be willing to sacrifice for the "Greater Good"

.

Although how that is judged is anyone's guess!

.

Technically Thanos was prepared to "Give Everything" for what he felt was right!

.

So should he be able to lift it?

.

.

NOTES

.

.

HELA

.

Thor's older sister Hela is clearly seen holding the Hammer, on the palace ceiling fresco in "Ragnarök"

.

So she has clearly held it in the past,

.

Although the "Spell" of worthiness was not "Cast" by Oden until the first Thor film thousands of years later!

.

.

ODIN

.

People are cheering when Captain America picks the Hammer up,

.

But by this time ODIN is dead!

.

Would Odin's death affect the conditions he put on the Hammer??

.

.

SAID AS A MIGHTY JEST!

ONLY!

.

What do Captain America and Thor have in Common?

.

Does Anyone consider that maybe a major worthiness component is being born white and blonde with blue eyes?

.

(This is only put here as a joke!)

.

.

YOU?

.

Would you be worthy?

.

Perhaps maybe instead of asking if you would be worthy enough to lift Mjollnir?

.

Instead,

.

Ask,

.

Is Mjǫllnir worthy of you?!
