Nicholas Chaves is rumored to not be returning

Belinda from Soap Dirt is revealing information that Sprina fans probably will not enjoy hearing. She reports an unnamed source at General Hospital suggests that Nicholas Alexander Chaves may not return as Spencer Cassadine.

This is not good news for the millions of fans who enjoy the character and the woman he loves. Until something definite is reported, the rumor mill will do what it does best: spread fabrication, half-truths, and misinformation. There was a time when the word of set insiders and leakers proved accurate. In recent years, however, the Internet has run rampant with fake news related to soap characters.

What we know as fact

Chaves's last air date was January 31, and he was supposed to return in a few months. The actor is filming Monster 2: The Eric and Lyle Melendez Story, which has fallen behind schedule. He is no longer in the opening credits with the other cast members on contract on GH and was not in a recent picture taken of the entire cast. His contract was not supposed to end until July but he could always be let out of it early.

Belinda suggests that Chaves might blow up after he is seen by other producers in the Netflix film and that doors for more opportunities may be opening up for him. This would be wonderful, and fans would certainly support the actor's career taking off, but this is not always the case for soap stars who leave.

Actors have had different results after leaving soaps

Dominic Zampragna (Dante Falconeri) left General Hospital a few years back for other opportunities but returned to the ABC soap. Neither his IMDb nor Wikipedia lists any credits in many years except GH. Ryan Paevy left his role as Nathan West and found success starring in Hallmark films.

Paevy recently stated that he had not worked in 8 months and had nothing lined up. He is contemplating leaving acting for a different career. On The Young and the Restless, Michael Amealor (Kyle Abbott) and Hunter King (Summer Abbott) left their roles at the same time. King found work in Hallmark movies but Mealor returned to Y&R.

Chaves could really impress in his role as Lyle Melendez and be one of the soap stars who finds fame. John Stamos, Demi Moore, and Jack Wagoner were all on General Hospital and left to find success in prime time so Chaves could do the same.

Sprina fans want to see the couple reunite

Sprina fans hope Spencer will return for May sweeps, and reunite with Trina. Taping for May has already taken place, and there has been no mention of the actor being back on the set. The new writers on General Hospital may not be invested in Sprina and leave Spencer dead and gone. They might choose to bring the character back, or there could be a recast.

Chaves has not posted on his Facebook page since 2023. He has been silent on X and Instagram except to unfollow everyone on GH except Frank Valentini, which has led to speculation from fans that he is not returning to the role that made him a star.

Is there hope for Sprina?

It's possible that Nicholas Alexander Chaves is simply laying low until Spencer's big return. Fans will just have to wait and see what happens. Be on the lookout for updates related to what comes next and if there is a future for Sprina.

GH viewers don't want to believe that the relationship has ended when it really had only just begun. Will Tabayna Ali and Nicholas Chaves emerge as the super couple may believe them to be or will have a new onscreen love? Will there be a different actor playing Spencer, or will the new writers move on without him?
