Familiar 'Book'
What is worse than white guilt? The suppression of black unity is the case. The film Green Book (2018) comes in shades of the denial of black unity all over the place. The tussle between the two ideals play out with Viggo Mortensen’s character Tony Lip and Mahershala Ali’s Dr. Don Shirley based on actual people. And that’s the crutch of the entire affair. Any criticism that may be leveled against the picture is often met with the vapid phrase, “but it’s based on a true story.” That does not give the film credence. The current trade in the arts from literature to cinema is to portray actual events and call them art. Some stories like 12 Years a Slave (2013) and Spotlight (2015) work because of the dynamics of the stories that are discussed. Though Slave shows the “white savior” in its portrayal of Brad Pitt’s character in mid 19th century America in the South, it displays the brutality of America’s original sin. In Spotlight, the Catholic Church is skewered with precision from the mighty pens and computers of dedicated journalists.

'Life Size 2: A Christmas Eve'—Movie Review
Did you just catch the new Life Size movie? Wasn’t it cray-cray? OMG, that Tyra Banks! And all the other awesome-tastic hilarious bits that happened in this film! I bet you're annoyed with how this review is starting off. Me too! And the reason is that all the characters talked like that in the film!

'Ralph Breaks The Internet'—and a Big Stereotype (Spoilers!)
As the parent of two girls—and a fairly non-stereotypical woman myself—I have in many ways been troubled by the portrayal of many animated women over the years. In writing this, I know how ridiculous that sounds; of all the things there are to worry about in this world, I'm bothered by the portrayal of women who aren't even flesh and blood.

Do You Remember This Shocking Superhero Conflict at 20th Century Fox?
As consumers; Spectacle, Summer Blockbusters, and Cinematic Universes are all the rage in modern society. One has to only look at Universal Studios as an example, the studio had a fantastic 2015, breaking the industry record for the highest grossing worldwide box office. Juggernaut films such as Minions (2015), Furious 7 (2015) and Jurassic World (2015) helped the studio accumulate around $5.53 billion in global box office (Busch, 2015). Disney similarly prospered; Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) became the second highest grossing film of all time (without adjustment to inflation). 20th Century Fox, however, suffered a difficult year, franchise films such as Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb (2015) and Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials (2015) massively underperformed.

Is 'Fantastic Beasts' Retconning the Harry Potter Franchise?
The newest entry into the Wizarding World franchise, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, has polarized Potterheads all over the world. I've seen many fans of the franchise say they absolutely loved the film and other longtime fans say they were disappointed with the movie.

Junk Food Film: 27 of the Best Movie Tie-Ins of the 70s, 80s and 90s
Movie tie-ins aren’t dead, they’re just not as fun anymore. In past decades, film licensing was sort of like the Wild West. There were less nutritional restrictions and guidelines, so fast food chains and junk food brands could exploit impressionable young kids and their parents to buy gray meet like patties, greasy fries and sugary sodas in exchange for cheap plastic movie themed treasures. No need to worry about childhood obesity, there was always a $100 million box office disappointment that needed promotion every summer. I may sound cynical but to be honest, I kinda miss those days. Sure the last thing I need is a $5.99 heart attack in a paper bag, but for a cool piece of movie merch I’d be inclined to cheat a little. Let’s take a walk down memory lane and look back at some of the best, and worst junk food film tie-ins ever.
